Here's the issue. The Tu-160 is a bigger, faster, heavier version of an american aircraft that doesn't need to be any bigger, faster, or heavier because it's already perfect for the job it's intended to do. The Lancer isn't some gigantic strategic beast that's designed to scare the shit out of the guy on the ground. It's built to preform low level deep penetration strikes. It will get in and get out before the other guy has a chance to know about it.

@USAmilitarypower Umh i think the Tu-160 has some stealth stuff, of course not at the same level of the US tech agreed. M1 vs T-90 is a heated debate. I honestly consider the top 3 tanks somewhat on the same level, the T-90, Leopard 2A6 and the M1A2. The T-90 beats the M1A2 in many fields, like mobility, resistance, fuel consumption etc. The M1A2 has superior armor, that's its real speciality, the T-90 has a lot of defensive systems, like shrota and arena but also infrared.
Unless of course it is raining or humid at high altitude. Then you have to keep those F-22s at home because their stealth is severely compromised and their RCS begins to approach that of a clean configuration F-16.

Russian TU-160 and American B1 share awfully lot similarities in their looks. I don't know anything about these planes, but they're almost identical to outsider.
Tu-160 launches its missiles 2000 miles from the target and returns to base. Thats WAAAAY out of the reach of any air defenses and even any radar installations. Tu-160s have never been in combat as their primary armament is 12 nuclear cruise missiles each.
Dogmeat, Tu-160 would never be on a recon mission as it cant do it. Russia, just as the US doesnt employ recon jets anymore as satellites do the job and UAVs provide additional intel without the risk.

My info comes from a Navy recruiter who works on Super Hornets, he was always a bigger fan of the F-14 in fact most ppl where it's just the F-14 took a long time to work on. the USAF is also upgrading it's F-15's but also going to replace some F-16 and F-15's with the F-22

They're great at sneak attacks on co-ordinated missions, but the US needs fast CAS fighters that could get to the stranded troops as fast as possible with the possibility of doing some reconnaissance before giving the troops support. And UCAVs aren't as heavily armed which makes them useless at CAS. That is the primary objective of the USAF today in Afghanistan. UCAVs and UA's are for reconnaissance

The bi-static technique of tracking stealth is another way to defeat it, because at the right frequencies radar will bounce off the atmosphere, but if its being absorbed by the plane, then its not going to bounce back. Bi-static is basically like triangulation and gives a 3d picture of where this void in the air is.

@harold562 An f-22 cannot intercept one Tu-160 because the bomber will shoot their cruise missiles and run back to base. They will fly low, then climb fast to 40k feet before reaching the range of the patriots SAM and fire. The raptor will not be able to scramble because its a surprise attack. Thats the objective of supersonic strategic bombers like Tu-160 and american B-1B. Same thing to B2 bombers.
Tu-160's fire range is 3000km. F-22's fire range is 150km. Tu-160 has the same speed as raptor, it will shoot cruise missiles from 3000km and fly back at full speed.
If the US sees you fly over Canada, the UK, Poland, or any of its allies the can scramble jets to intercept before you see America. That is Air Defense! Where is Russia's Allies? If anything it would be easier for the Americans to attack Russia, with their stealth technologies. But it would never happen.
Nobody will shoot down Tu-160s in neutral area in peaseful time. But Tu-160s fly near your boundary now(over Pacific and Atlanic) and can lounch 12 cruise missiles in one moment from 3000km.

My info comes from a Navy recruiter who works on Super Hornets, he was always a bigger fan of the F-14 in fact most ppl where it's just the F-14 took a long time to work on. the USAF is also upgrading it's F-15's but also going to replace some F-16 and F-15's with the F-22

The F-22 is supposed to Replace the old F-15's, but since it's far too expensive to upgrade into only F-22's the government decided to invest in F-15 SE (Silent Eagle, which is a stealthier version with internal bays). The F-35 is supposed to replace the F-16, F-18 and the A-10. But hence it'll be too expensive, the F-18 G is going to replace older F-18's where stealth is not required, as in low-risk missions. So the future of the USAF = F-18G, F-15SE, F-22 & F-35

But tactics are changing rapidly and the need for unmanned drones outweights the need for Fighters in wars the US are fighting now. @naltrexone23X Well that's true, but UCAVs haven't proven themselves very good in air-air so far. They're great at sneak attacks on co-ordinated missions, but the US needs fast CAS fighters that could get to the stranded troops as fast as possible with the possibility of doing some reconnaissance before giving the troops support. And UCAVs aren't as heavily armed which makes them useless at CAS. That is the primary objective of the USAF today in Afghanistan. UCAVs and UA's are for reconnaissance

@808scott Definately the Rafale. The Rafale has the best turning radius, it's equipped with AESA radar, it's the fastest of all of them, the most modern of them with the newest set of weapons. It's also got the best thrust/weight ratio.

The Tu-160 is probably the best strategic bomber in terms of speed and payload, though I'm not sure what makes a 'good' bomber. If its speed and payload than the Tu-160 is by far the best.

The bi-static technique of tracking stealth is another way to defeat it, because at the right frequencies radar will bounce off the atmosphere, but if its being absorbed by the plane, then its not going to bounce back. Bi-static is basically like triangulation and gives a 3d picture of where this void in the air is.
Satellites are another tool that can be used.
Americans are senselessly wasting so many billions of dollars on this already defeated technology, and I still cant figure out why!

The impressive display of knowledge aside, does it not seem possible to you that in a war between major powers, in which various detection systems will be undoubtedly be knocked out sooner or later, stealth might become an important advantage at some point? Or perhaps it might still be useful in a dogfighting situation? And honestly, you know that nobody here believes that you have special knowledge or are anything but a heckler right?

Meh, expecially at dogfight range stealth is not that useful: the engines would be at maximum, and even on full afterburner sometimes - so the IR signature is going to be quite high anyway.
Stealth is more useful at BVR ranges, where you have to rely on radar homing mostly.

Stealth is of little use in a dogfight. Most air to air missiles are heat guided, so a stealth aircraft can be detected that way. Another reason is that stealth aircraft are less detectable to radar, not invisible. It only takessome detection (as proved in Kosovo) to shoot down an enemy aircraft.

@RussiaBest03 Trust me, the F-22 can still reach the bombers if maneuvered right. The maximum speed a F-22 can reach is 2.25 Mach while the TU-160 only goes at 2.05 at 40,000ft. Sure altitude is a problem, but to intercept a plane, altitude is not a problem in the hands of a pro. =)

@harold562 An f-22 cannot intercept one Tu-160 because the bomber will shoot their cruise missiles and run back to base. They will fly low, then climb fast to 40k feet before reaching the range of the patriots SAM and fire. The raptor will not be able to scramble because its a surprise attack. Thats the objective of supersonic strategic bombers like Tu-160 and american B-1B. Same thing to B2 bombers.

Tu-160's fire range is 3000km. F-22's fire range is 150km. Tu-160 has the same speed as raptor, it will shoot cruise missiles from 3000km and fly back at full speed.

Stealth is a huge waste which Russia has developed systems to counter it with such as Bistatic and satellite radars because you cant make a plane stealth from all angles
The Americans concentrated their stealth on the front of their planes and tried to reduce its heat signature of F22 but ANY plane flying supersonic is heating the air around it which is very easily located using infrared/ultraviolet spectrum
Also when you see an empty spot in the sky in the shape of a plane what could it be?
