Thank God for the computer age-the best way to find 'long-lost-relatives. Born in Detroit, I just recently started locating folks. Half-brothers and nieces in California to cousins in Michigan. I'm so proud to have the same last name as you. Hope we can get in touch. all my best, Robert
Please don't misunderstand..I didn't mean you can't dance, what I should have said and more appropriately, I meant you really had little room to make any moves..if you know what I mean? I am a country radio DJ and play a lot of the Desert Rose Band, my listeners also seem to like Keep on doing what you do. Good luck in the future and never give up.
I saw the "reunited" DRB at the Coach House last Thursday night. Awesome. First time I've heard John play with them. He was awesome, but so were all of them, Bill, Steve, Jay Dee, Herb and Chris. Just a pheonemal show all the way around.
BTW - whatever happened to Bob Knight? I didn't have a chance to ask John about him. And did you know Cody Bryant by chance when you were in L.A.?
Latest I've heard is that the boys have reunited, if only temporarily and for certain shows. John's website mentions a number of DRB dates in the fall.
That's pretty much what I've also heard. It would be nice if Chris and Herb and Bill do their own Bluegrass thing for six months, and John too with the Django stuff - and then get back together every couple of months or so.
Hope to take in either the SF or Denver show, or better yet if they play at a venue in Southern California.
JJ (John Jorgenson) is a phenominal musician. Wait till you see this live performance video from the Palamino of me singing Janis Martin's "Good Love." The audio is real rough but John is so darn cute! And so skinny. He wore those 1940's style baggy pants like a male model and his 'rockabilly' moves are.. well...you'll laugh! He's just darling.
Sure don't know why he is hiding. Steve was so kind enough to come to my 50th at Viva Cantina (Burbank) 5 years ago - Steve Hill was also there. I know that Steve was looking for work in L.A. - and not finding gigs was planning to move to Nashville. I believe he married steel guitar wiz Mike Johnstone (Rhinestone's) sister.
Planning to see Chris, Herb and Bill this coming weekend. Of all the DRB lads the only one I haven't "officially" meet is JJ.
The original demo was engineered by Rick Perotta. Mr.Perotta is now head of the high-end microphone manufacturing firm, ROYER. Mr. Perotta was also the first executive who was willing to step-outside-the-box and take the Go Go's into the studio back in 1977. He da man!
Rick didn't get the Go Go's into the studio. Twas only through inspiration, dreams and total BS Rick agreed to cooperate. Still, hats off to him. He was the only recording engineer in Hollywood willing to take a gamble and do a session on a band who ... er... well, they could barely play their instruments. Their first "Recording" was a disaster. Lucky for the Go Go's, soon thereafter came a Producer who recognized their potential. He hired "real" session musicians. That's how hits are made.
Sure did. Interesting that he didn't stay on to join Chris and Herb in DRB - I think he went back to Gib Guilbeau and Skip Battin after CH morphed into the Desert Rose Band.
I used to see Steve at Viva Cantina in Burbank, about four years ago - heard he's in Nashville too.
I wish Steve Duncan would look me up next time he's in town. I remember he used to goat me saying, "Awh,sing: 'Take An Old Cold Tater and Wait!" (An old Jimmy Dickens song I'd never heard in my entire life at that time.) Now, I laugh. Especially since my husband played on the original recording of the song in 1949. Hey, you never know what life holds in store?
There's a lot of interesting ex-California expatriate Country Rockers in Nashville - Bernie Leadon is there, as is Steve "Seven Bridges Road" Young. Many though, have come back west - because of all the sad commercialism Nashville country has become.
I'd never heard the song "Seven Bridges Road" until a few months ago. Great song. From what I understand, its one of those gigantic underground hits everyone wants to hear but it never made the top ten on the record charts. Jerry Carrigan, played drums on it. (Speaking of awesome, tasteful, drummers, he's it!) It's true Nashville has been badly tainted. It reminds me of Los Angeles 40 years ago. Even Carrigan who cut a kazillion hits here, has moved back to Alabama. Who can blame him?
Just spent this past weekend with Chris, Herb and Bryson - learned that Duncan did get married (I think to Mike "Rhinestone" Johnston's sister - do you know Mike?) and is - well, where you're at!
The end product of this art form is really fasinating but, to me, (ADD poster child) the process is tedious work. It takes forever. For Pete, it was a passion. Great stuff. Hey, check out the stop frame animation video of Jackie Wilson's "Rete Petite" in my favorites. I don't know who did it but it's awesome.
OMG BOBKA on the guitar! That was a long time ago!!!! It's AWESOME!

My...My...Louise Mandrell does have a look-a-like. WOW! She's a real cutie but is lacking a bit with the moves. Good sounding band however!.

ha ha! I'm flattered. I hope Louise is too.

They got together last week for a show at the Station Inn.
John has moved beyond DRB into much 'headier' music.
DRB fans who catch their upcoming shows scheduled for the fall should feel blessed. It may be the last time you'll see this
line-up.

John tells me Steve Duncan is doing well. Happily married and living in North Carolina/Virginia somewhere?
Sadly, I haven't heard from Steve in years.
He's a fabulous drummer. A VERY rare and treasured species, for sure.
Why is he hiding?
