Writers write songs in many different ways. I do things in different orders. Sometimes I write the words first, and sometimes the music first. I tend to go with what comes out of my head first. Songs start with a feeling. Then I try to describe that feeling in music or words. Imagine the end result, then work towards it :)

I've played the guitar most of my life, Jeff. When I was at a party years ago, I was playing some simple, Peter, Paul and Mary song, and singing. Have you ever closed your eyes while singing? You're so into the music, that you're in a place where no one else is? I was there. When I opened my eyes -- I was still playing the song -- I looked at a friend, and she had tears in her eyes. I guess the song was really affecting her. I'll never forget that, so I know what you're talking about. :-)
