Awesome piece and performance, but it lost some of the musicality of the original piece by being played so fast, but you guys played it very well, nonetheless!
We're playing this for part of my friend's graduation project. We're playing it slower than this for the time being, but I'm sort of hoping we don't play it quite this fast. I love the horn part though ^-^
Haha I love that everyone in here has been conducted by Dr. Boonshaft. Me too, in Rhode Island All-State, although we didnt play The Redwoods with him, I just love the song.
Hey, Peter Boonshaft conducted us in this too! Just this past March, at the Idaho All-State Honor Band. :) He took it super fast (this tempo), but I love it anyway. There were some crazy hard saxophone runs.
im playing this for my high-school's end of the year concert, we've only sight read it once so obviously our conductor would take it slower. but i sure hope he doesnt take it this fast!!
good recording, but i wish the horns played out a little bit more. some may disagree, but im a sucker for that beautiful sound!
@mgyucht1 Us, too. At the Idaho All-state Band last March, Dr. Boonshaft had us go over that for about a half hour. I confess, I missed that high G in the performance, though.
i played this my freshman year in my high wind ensemble... we too also took it slower. i liked it better that way... it let the phrases and notes sing smoother and gave it a better feeling. But wow... i miss this piece alot. Flute 1 on this was pretty sweet as I recall :)
I played this in an honors band in Columbus, Ohio. We played it at almost this exact tempo. Maybe it's just me, but I can't envision playing it any slower.
Does anyone know who conducted this performance? It's REALLY fast. In fact, my high school band director commissioned the work about 10 years ago and he's always taken it quite a bit slower. I've got a connection to Rossano - were quite good friends - I've conducted a number of his works and I can tell you he likes his music to breathe. Very passionate guy.
@notoyota9 haha I know you posted this 9 months ago, but better late than never! I actually played in this recording. Peter Boonshaft conducted, and he was amazing (even though we did take it way too fast).
If Galante isn't a movie composer, he should be. I also love Resplendent Glory. The music reminds me of something John Williams might write. You have to admit, it does have that action/adventure sound to it.
this one is amazing yes. ive recently been looking for all of rossano galantes works. my personal favorite is Resplendent Glory. University of Utah plays it AMAZING.
I finally found it!!!! Everytime, some high school or middle school band named redwood would come up. This was one of my favorite piece we played in our high school.
I am currently playing this in the honor band that I am in... It is by far my favorite piece! Just amazing!

haha, we got that lick right at measure 16... Boonshaft drilled us trombones on that half a bar constantly. :D
