  • Where's the clapping?!?!

I mean, even if that auditorium was empty, people would still be clapping from miles away!

Say, are you playing this on Mars?

  • @Ragtime44Films tryin to hard for a rating =p

  • @ph4nt0mf1ng3rs

    I wasn't trying to get a rating, kid. It's called a compliment.

  • @Ragtime44Films The clapping is after Paganini etude 6 (the video should be somewhere in the suggestions box on the right)

  • A joy to listen and to watch. My favorite aspect is how through even the fastest and most difficult passages, you remain relaxed and your hands do not tense up.

  • 15.000 hours of practice that is what it takes to play the piano like this!

Simply amazing, the fluency and speed in his fingers is fantastic, BRAVO.

  • you're so lucky to have such big hands

  • Wow... <--- that's all I can say. I wonder how many more undiscovered guys there are out there. You prove they exist.

  • one of the best versions of campanella i ever heard! :o thumbs up!

  • Nice use of the left hand, brought out at appropriate times.

  • I cant stop watching this artist! For me is the best interpretation.. clear, light in every note, makes it bright and generous. GIFTED! I wonder if I can get his interpretations in CD.

  • magnifica interpretacion , me encanta escucharte te admiro en demasia

  • pro....

  • Campanella! Dieu! Liszt est mirifique et cet interprète également, sa manière de jouer relève de celle des anges. Merci!

  • all i can say is.. PERFECT! that is exactly what the etudes have to sound like... its so clear and soft!! FIVE STARS

  • all i can say is.......wow! ur amazing! keep posting what ur playing! how do ur fingers move so fast?

  • wonderfull

  • I heard no mistakes

  • 1:12

  • listen to the music, not the mistakes.

  • it's good

  • very impressive thanks for posting it! i added to favorites to listen to later

    5/5

  • Mr. Romanov, just a tiny little bit faster, and you got it. Practice blind playing the whole score in slow speed, many times preferrably in the night. Focus on sound, on melody, listen to Claudio Arrau.

Your technique is impeccable, you can master all of Liszt, but to be successful globally you need to work on communicating your vision of Liszt.

You can become a true avatar of Franz Liszt, but you have to work on your soul level. I can help you to get there.

  • Do you even play the piano

  • I do. I also compose music. The fact that I have only self-help on my channel so far doesn't mean I am doing *only* that. I have self-produced 46 CDs with my own music, piano, relaxation and New Age. I also have taught piano to children, using my own method. Besides I give advice to pianists on musical interpretation, was sought after mostly by Koreans and Taiwanese, on how to interpret Schubert and other German composers. Having a brilliant technique doesn't mean to be per se a good musician.

  • I disagree, his speed was fine as it was. In fact for the 5th one, it might have been even a little too fast. Just because they're etudes of virtuosity doesn't mean play as fast and as impressive as possible.

  • sounds amazing... he is not playing with the bravado and stage presence i imagine Liszt having... but then again, who could.

wow, this is so amazing though.

  • he's lucky he has big hands plus fantastic technique! :(:(:( my hands are too small compared to him. he plays this with ease while i have to struggle to reach some notes......

  • PRO ?!

  • No. 5 starts at 6:26

  • Can't believe they got rid of the berezovsky transcendental etudes...damn copyright.

  • they did? that sucks.

myself and many others complained when all anna vinnitskaya's stuff was pulled earlier this year, to no avail.

  • he's cheating, robot fingers, change of titanium, he's cheating us all :D amazing -.-

  • guud~!

  • All 6 etudes in one sitting. I'm wondering how he can still feel his fingers.

  • FUCK!!!!!

  • Ia otchinn lioubliou....spassiba!

    Dmitrij,thi ou nas stchistlivhi!

  • mistake at 50

  • Well in his head hes trying to remember like this etude and to others... its not that major... Lets see you do this.

  • only joking, he is fantastic

  • ah!ah!

  • dang..he memorized all 6 etudes!!! omg...that's insane..and he's sooo amazing..*applause*

  • very very well done!

  • la campanella never ceases to amaze me.

not to mention the rest of them, of course :D

  • 5*.........................!

  • maravilhoso...que excelente pianista, a campanela está perfeita, la chasse maravilhosa, o arpeggio soa como violino... parabéns

  • La Campanella is the beginning, cool

  • I thought the fifth Paganini etude was just La Chasse? Not La Chasse Neige. That's the 12th transcendental etude, I think. Oh well, it doesn't matter, this is such a wonderful interpretation of this piece. It's so delicate and it just takes you to another world. I think I want to play this for my senior solo! Thank you Dmitrij for being so wonderful at what you do!

  • You're right, the name is wrong.

  • Grand! (Applause)

  • Delicatesse!partfait

  • try to play the right hand of no.3 without having large hands... it's insane!

  • amazing playing. to the people who posted asking why Liszt rewrote these works to make them easier the answer is quite simple they were to hard for any other pianist to play. There are perhaps 3 pianist alive today that can play the original versions. A highly recommended read is Great Pianist from Mozart to the Present by Schoenberg... Read it well worth the time and it is a enjoyable read as well...

  • This guy is really good. How come I haven't heard of him before?

  • it is so sad that some people here pretend to know something on music when they are completely stupid and mad people ashamed of their playing! stop criticizing when you are ignorant bravo you are a great player!

  • So you claim to be any better off by calling these people "stupid and mad"

  • Totally excellent. Bravo Liszt, Bravo Romanov. I used to play piano to a rather mediocre level. This only highlights how mediocre it really was.

  • General consensus is that numbers 3 and 4 are the easiest to play, while 6 is the hardest, followed by 3 and then 1. I learned La Campanella when i was 13, and only now (i'm 18) have i decided to learn the other 5, and oh holy fuck, if those two are meant to be the two easiest, this could be difficult...

  • You wanted to say, that 4 & 5 are the easiest, didn't you? ;)

  • That was a joke!!! Oh Men!!!!! How can anybody of you take this serious? Unbelievebal in the house!

  • Funny Joke ! Hahaha :)

  • I'm 3 years old and can play Totentanz while sleeping and the Paganini Etudes. I learned all of the Hungarian Rhapsodies in one night while blindfolded. I can also play all the Transcendental Etudes backwards. My hands reach 4 octaves which makes la campanella a walk in the park.

  • not even a good bed-time story.. but, you're free to imagine yourself do impossible things..

  • Post of a vide of you playing them then... if your that good... HAHA

  • Man, give the guy a break. It was a joke!

  • thats a rather frightening bedtime story. makes me think of those "i'm 3 and dead. my dad beat me and ....." etc. chain mails.

  • your comment made me laugh :D

  • you're a complete retard; trying to compare yourself to Liszt???

  • R u Dmitrij Romanov?

    No, U r Liszt No.2

  • R u Dmitrij Romanov?

    No, U r Liszt No.2

  • What beautiful a beautiful touch. Flawless delivery. Thank you for your dedication to the art and mastery of the instrument.

  • I really appreciate your brilliant performance! What a marvelous playing! Your momentum is kept well!

    Your technique is world-class!

I start learning La Campanella, it is very difficult for me due to my poor fingering= =

  • no way!!!

  • You son of a bitch what a liar

  • I believe you whole heartedly.

  • Thank you, Dima! This is an outstanding performance. Really. Very clean technique. But this is not so special these days. What is special about you is a great respect for composer's perspective. Where are you performing?! Looks like an ugly place. You belong in Thomson Hall in Toronto. See you there! Good luck.

  • Which etude is hardest? The number 4 or the number 5

  • I'm 4 years old and i can play all trascendental etudes (being blindfolded), etudes after paganini, prokofiev 2nd concerto, hungarian rhapsody #2 and i played with 9 proffessional orchestras past year in the carneggie hall, and I put Lang Lang to shame when we met to Jam when i was 4 months old.. and more importantly, I'm better than you and younger :)

  • Cool

  • Man, that's nothing. I'm a foetus and I've recorded everything by Alkan.

  • wait so we are all bullshitting now ? huh ok well im am the reincarnation of liszt himself

  • So wat i've played every piano piece that has ever been written and ones that will be written in the future +)

  • I'm sorry i didnt meant to be evil...

  • hahahahahaaa genius

  • man, all 6 paganini etudes in one sitting! you have amazing technique, how many keys can you reach?

  • accepted.

however Paganini (while being imperative to the piano work itself) didnt transcribe it for the piano; liszt did. And the score markes the tempo as "Allegretto". Keep what paganini wanted in mind for the violin peice and what liszt wanted for the piano piece as they are two very different instruments.

At the end of the day though, its all down to personal preference and how you feel the music says what it has to say best.

  • Its good to see someone who takes this piece at a resonable tempo; in my opinion it brings out so much more than those others who simply go at it with break-neck speed and the musicality of a yak.

Kudos to you then on your performance, very enjoyable

  • Well, I like this tempo as well, but you have to realize this piece is based off of a violin piece. The violin piece goes considerably faster, so it's not at all wrong to play this at a faster piece because that would be more in line with the spirit of what Paganini had in mind.

  • Is he using the pedal for the part w/ both hands for the melody? (also after chords)

  • Hail to all hairsplitters... this guy is simply fabulous... 5 stars!

  • love.

  • Simply fabulous, has all the tricks, all the techniques, wonderful musicianship.

  • yea, but kissin was a little imature in that vid... i heard him with the Emperor concerto live :) at bucharest's enescu festival and it was pretty cool !!!

  • What an amazing technique!

  • Is it not "forbidden" to look at the keys while playing? Of course he seems to be a professional pianist but still... Isn't it bad to watch the keys, especially when ur a beginner?

  • I'm surprised. This is excellent playing. It is flowing yet incredibly energetic. Frankly, I have heard netter recordings, but none of them were this comfortable and only very few were as fluid.

  • you know, i even dare to say this is better than Kissin's... it is not ideal, but it's more calculated and with less mistakes than Kissin's... like it...

  • Don't forget, better dynamics...

  • Oh crap... I found this archieve with emule too, but it contains only the new eudes too =(

    I couldn't find at least a midi-file of the old arpeggio =(

  • Impossible? Well, I already thought something like that...^^

Hehe, but I'll learn it and in 20 years, when it's perfect, I'll post a recording on youtube! =D (little joke)

Is there not even one mp3 in the internet of this etude!?

Do you really think the new campanella isn't harder although those many big jumps? I didn't try to play the first version, but I thougt it looks easier^^

  • Oh dear, these versions look REALLY funny! =D

Why did Liszt make an easier version of the apreggio? The new version of the campanella is much harder too.

I'm still searching for a mp3 of these etudes, I've only found the newer versions

  • I was under the impression that the 3rd etude was

in the key of A-flat minor despite the G# notation.

You see a similar inconsistency between the key signature of the piece and its name in other pieces with rather complex key signatures

  • i love this studio

  • Playing the apreggio looks quite funny =) When I heard it for the first time, I expected this is one of this crazy studies for one hand. But playing it with 2 hands looks quite easy!

  • awesome...

  • i totally agree this interpretation of la chasse is astounding.

  • Seconded! Unfortunately I haven't seen too many

performances of La Chasse on YouTube

  • すげーーーー

  • Are you giving any performances in the US? I must hear you play in person and meet you. You are such an inspiration. I adore your playing.

  • la campanella nicecly done!!!!!

  • This is Fabulous! Masterful. what exquisite delicacy of touch and nuance. Reminds me of Horowitz.

  • Awesome!

  • Is the piano a kawai? or a Hamburg Steinway?

  • That was out of this world. You make it look so easy to so. How long have you been playing? Thank-you :)

  • That was out of this world. You make it look so easy to so. How long have you been playing? Thank-you :)

  • my wish is to take one lesson with this guy. I really love the way he plays. Very intellectual.

  • brilliant.

  • splendid play . i enjoy it so much
