My Aunt used to live in Columbus, GA when I was a kid. Her ex-husband still lives there, and I have some memories of riding this road in the Columbus area.
No, it's not you. Sometimes, when it's sunny like that, it'll show on the video. It must be something mixed in the asphalt (?). Indeed, clouds like that always make a good backdrop.
The raw footage started at the I-85/185 interchange near LaGrange, but there was nothing of note, so I didn't edit that portion. I've heard about both extensions, but I don't see either happening anytime soon. The southern extension would follow S.R. 520/South Georgia Parkway, I think.
Interesting video Bryant. I always get surprised when seeing a city population. These days its a somewhat inaccurate way of judging a cities significance.
Thanks, Luke. Yeah, a city's population can be a bit misleading in terms of its significance. College Park's a city of 20,000, but is a major city, because of its proximity to the Atlanta Airport. There are 30+ hotels and other businesses in its city limits.
Enjoyed the ride from the northern section of I-185. I usually enter Columbus from Phoenix City, Ala on 280. My wife's sister lives there. Funny but I've never been to Fort Benning. Great Vid !
Thanks. I think that it's something that's mixed into the asphalt; I'm not sure what exactly it is, though. I don't normally see it unless it's sunny.
I-185 through Columbus is decent but the section from I-85 to where this video started is god awful borrrring. Love the expanded cloverleaf at Exit 10, good design.
I agree; that's one of the reasons why I just skipped on down to the Columbus-Muscogee County stretch. Yeah, the U.S. 80/J.R. Allen Parkway's a nice freeway, and has a nice interchange with I-185.
Excellent, so than it became a consolidated city-county? I like this freeway a lot on the street view, and the sounds barriers. Is it me or are we seeing those less nowadays? Good video overall. :)
Huh, I never knew that the city and county merged together. I was wondering why the city boundaries were rather spread out. That's a pretty nicely designed and landscaped freeway for that city.
Yeah, after doing a little research, I saw that Columbus and Muscogee County have had a merged government since 1971. Pretty nice, urban freeway indeed.

Thanks! I've driven that strip of 185 a million times in my life. I also want to commend the driver for proper use of lanes. :)

just a note, the speed limit as of 12-2010 was changed to 65 from exit 19 all the way to St. Mary's Road, which I believe is like exit 3 :)

Is it me, or does the road look like it has glitter spilled on it during the first half of the video?
I like how the wispy clouds in the sky make a neat backdrop. Adds a nice little element to the drive.

have you filmed I-185 from the I-85 interchange to where you started? and i also heard there are plans to extend the freeway both north and south?

Thanks. Glad that you enjoyed it. I wished that I had time to do a reshoot of U.S. 80 and 280, but had to keep it movin' toward Albany.

Pretty much, yeah, it's a consolidated city-county set-up.
I hadn't really paid attention to the sound barrier thing overall, but now that you say it, yeah, might be.
Thanks, Max.
