Is there any wonder Coverdale fired this guy after they finished up the 1987 album? He does vocals almost as well as he does guitar, and that's saying a lot.
Can't think of a more talented combined singer/guitar player than John Sykes. Tony and Carmine are no slouches either. Great live performance of this song.
They were crazy good but just happened at the wrong time. Not too many of those tail-end hair bands made it through 1990 intact without making a total switch in image like Pantera and Alice in Chains. (they were both full on hairbands at one time.)
All three of them were on fire that day. As for Sykes, what can be said? Absolutely untouchable. I once heard Zakk Wylde describe him as "Way underrated. One of the best rock guitarists in the world." Very true. But let's not forget the voice. Puts Coverplant to shame IMO.
Sykes is massive!-No wonder Coverdale was threatened by him!...As THE ROCK would put it..I can't imagine how much PIE Sykes woulda got in the day....:-)
The 80s - when even "random" studio musicians that formed the backbone of even the more obscure power rock outfits had more talent in their pee than the likes of Bieber, his daddy Usher, all the Disney starlets or Adam Lambert had in the whole of their beings combined. Not that I want you damn kids to get off my lawn or anything.
how this band didn't take off is beyond me. Whitesnake was never as good after John left. His voice is as good as coverdales and he writes and sings. tripple threat. how the hell is john sykes not a legend???
@mixmastermonte They were in the right place at the wrong time. Had John not joined Whitesnake he might have formed Blue Murder years sooner and they could have been huge. They really were a victim of bad timing and getting in on the last years or so of the great "hair bands" of the late 80's. There was no push from the record company musical climate was changing to grunge and that took off faster then expected for most of the late comers to the hair band era.
@slopitch27 I live in Philadelphia. In 1989 there was a local band that got signed called Heaven's Edge. They were a lot closer to the end. Theygot signed, had two singles on the radio and couldn't get arrested when nirvana came out in 91. I love Nirvana and that whole scene and I loved the 80's hairbands but I remember even I think it was Nikki Sixx saying it was all sounding the same and he wished it would change. Well, becareful what you wish for i guess.
@slopitch27 They did not have enough "hits" to make it big in 1989. Grunge was still two to three years away. A band like Slaughter came out in 1990 with Stick It To Ya and had a huge album with "hits". Grunge is not the reason Blue Murder did not make it big.
at least valley of the kings had some airplay on mtv i remember it lol. Great live performance

Biggest mistake Coverdale ever did was to give John Sykes the booth from Whitesnake.

I really wish this band sold more albums. They deserved a bigger audience.

I heard Coverdale sabotaged Blue Murder as they were both on Geffen records. Hope BM reforms and does a killer album!

One of my favorite songs. John Sykes' tone is like creamy goodness oozing out of the speaker cab!
