  • shush, no one cares what i think.

  • John Cage --- he prepared pianos, and prepared listeners.

  • tell me what you think about my theory on Cage's music: It's not meant to be music. It's meant to remind of things we have done in our past. Think of yourself before you knew how to play any instruments. Banging on things in pseudo-rhythmic patterns trying to see if you can play well. Think of that (or your similar memory, assuming you have one) while listening to this. Cage is less like Bach, and more like Van Gogh, not capturing sound, but moments and memories

    Hope I don't sound crazy

  • @miiwiiplay as far as I know, cage was interested in music emancipated from memories or feeling, even lacking traces of the composer's ego. he did music just because of the sound. maybe trying to convince people that every sound can be understood as music - intended or not. that's how I see it.

  • @miiwiiplay John said that he didn't hear the music he wanted to write, he wanted to write music that he hadn't heard

  • @dalecampbl6 are you talking about the music or someone's comment?

I'm not a pariah that is going to prey on your opinion. I was just curious what your interpretation of what ever it was.... was. If that makes sense.

  • John is my favorite composer ever. Its not music, its no great mystery that needs solved, Its just sound, nothing more.

  • I love when the music becomes more melodic, but when the pauses start, I must say I get a little confused about what he was trying to express.

  • @awsmduck This is where a lot of people fall down with John Cage. Watch a video of him talking about silence, I think you might find it interesting. His music is not intended to express, its just there to be sounds for what they are, nothing to do with feelings or moods or anything, just a sound. Like he says in the video, his music is just "outer listening" not "inner listening".

  • @BeFrSc well, maybe it had nothing to do with "his" inner feelings or moods when he wrote it. but that's intention which is something different than expression. music is ultimately empty and meaningless in and of itself. if someone hears this piece of music and feels certain things from the music, his experience is totally valid for himself.

  • @awsmduck Why should it express anything ?

  • My! Those prepared keys sound mighty strange against those un-prepared keys!
