@GrandesClassicos93 They simply ran out of the rockets at the end of the 2009 Season. The last batch was made during the Vietnam era. With the power from modern Engines they really don't need them. Other aircraft to do the same job. It's too bad, it was always an impressive part of the show, and a great way to see FAT ALBERT!
@autoxjunky Both terms are correct. In the early days of rocketry, the term "jet" was commonly used to refer to rocket propulsion, because rocket exhaust is, when you get right down to it, a jet of hot gas.
Note that the famous spacecraft facility in Pasadena (which is where JATO devices were invented in 1941) is known as the "Jet Propulsion Laboratory".
I'm going on a JATO shot ride tomorrow afternoon at Alliance airport. Last year for them.
I was out in MiraMar for a det a few months ago my unit still has T model 130s the last unit in the Corps to have them, I was looking over a J model and I don't think that the J has provisions for JATO bottles.
No more JATO bottles left. Like knewhaase said, the company that made them no longer produces them. Haven't for years. They finally are running out now.
Surely a new company can step up to the plate and sell to the Navy. I believe they use solid propellant (correct me if I'm wrong on that), which isn't hard to produce at all. Hell, I could probably do it with some research and money.
Preachin' to the choir brother. It wouldn't be that hard to reproduce or to resume production. But alas, the government doesn't see air shows as an important priority, and like someone else mentioned, the new C-130J model has enough power as it stands that the JATO capability is no longer considered to be needed.
Still, I wish someone would make some more. And donate them to the Navy so nobody could say money was an issue. :D
great for short field take offs ine?

is this not really RATO?!?
jjjazzycraig 1 year ago
That would be a RATO not JATO.
Rocket Assisted Take Off vs. Jet Assisted Take Off. Those are Rockets not Jets.

@autoxjunky that would be douche-bag.

You have an AMAZING camera! Performs so well in low light? How much did it cost?
(like it matters lol $300 is too much for me)
Twilight show was canceled for my area due to risk of low temperatures :((((
