The latin translation...interesting. You could have a theological debate about the meaning of this song, but I think that would be overdoing it. I believe in this song, Eli is just a man...maybe a football player...who knows?
@Gamesguy12 hehe. yeah me too actually! but I would always have someone come up to me and sing this. and i am finally listening to it for the first time. not bad at all!
When I purchased my Caique Parrots, I chose the female & let her choose the male. They did not have their wings clipped yet. I was going over & over waiting for the right 'names' to jump out at me & literally, it did. The female was so sweet & gentle. The male was pure GUY. He'd fly straight at my face & land in my hair- never hurt but just suddenly THERE !! I started to say, "Oh NO - here he comes! This song jumped into my recall & is perfect. "Eli's Coming - hide your heart Girl"
this song was played on the last episdoe of Sport's Night, a tv show that was based on SportsCenter. right of to the last show they did not know if they were going to be on another season. it was such a good show i was sad to see it go off the air, but i'll never forget them playing my favorite tdn song!
There was a local band in the Atlanta area in the mid-late 70's called "Eli". On the radio commercials for their shows, the script was always followed by the intro of this song...Eli's cominnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng!
All the student NURSES knew " Eli's Coming" THANKS to one student who would turn the volume up and scream down the Catholic Dorm in La Salle/Peru ,Illinois!
Can you believe it was 40 years ago!!! My daughter and husband are having their 1st child in April 2011,and it is a boy ! I was at her sonagram and they plan to name him Eli, of course that name made me to immediately go back to a free time of Three Dog Night and Nurses Training (except) for our hardcore nuns! "Eli's Coming " lives on!
My son is 4yrs old... and when I was pregnant and thinking of the name Eli, a coworker used to sing this song to me all the time. Now I have shared the song with my son and he LOVES it. He asks to listen to 'his song' and then dances around to it. :) Thanks for making it easy to share with him.
i just had to write something to express how much i really like this song in particular and 3 dogs night in general. i think this and never been to spain are their best work, altough its hard to choose really. absolutely amazing song, doesnt follow traditional recipe for songs they just seem to be playing just for the fun of it, never doing the same thing twice, like a chorus or something. Brilliant!
Saw Jeff Negra at Mishawaka Fest 20 years ago and he was powerful! Met him and a bunch of other legends including Peter Noonan and Tiny Tim to mention a couple others. The city rocked that night I tell ya. Never had another as electric as that night. There must have been thousands crammin that park that night. That will never happen again and I'm glad that I was there to experience it.
@JJCANE2 Hi. Yes, both are great. What a band, all those hits. Chuck will be with Paul Revere and Raiders on a cruise in January, a little wish list for me. Almost never wrote their own songs, an encouragement to others that it can be done. Love Cory's clothes and ascot.

It's been re-surrected and is now played every time he takes the line up card out to the umpiring crew before Isotopes home games.
@jimkeef Tim is managing the Isotopes? No shit !!!. . . alright. That's great. I grew up a Giants fan but that's great to hear that Tim is still in baseball. I met him at a Giants / Dodgers game at Candlestick years ago. Helluva nice guy. I wish him well.
Today kids are not thought of as being intellectually astute musically, and the radio stations play anything that someone is willing to promote.

Danny Hutton was great but if you tell it like it is, Chuck Negron was the voice of 3 Dog Night.
Negron "WAS >IS >AND WILL ALWAYS BE 3 DOG NIGHT for all of us that grew up in the late 60's and the 70's.
pieword 1 year ago
I am a big Chuck Negron fan for sure, but I also firmly believe that it was that EXACT combination that made TDN what it was.
I don't think it would have been the same if ANY of the original guys weren't there.
IMO:
TDN is NOT as good without Chuck...
AND...
CHUCK is not as good without TDN..
They should be together...they belong together.
My 2 cents
