Why does almost everyone do the same pass: round-off, back handspring, double back pike?! Not a double tuck, always a double pike. Hardly anything added to it - not even an extra handspring to make it unique!
A double tuck was only a C in 2008. The gymnasts last acro series has to end with a D or higher tumble. A lot of gymnasts ended with the double pike because of that. If they did a C, there were a lot more choices for C acro elements and I think most were "easier" than the double tuck.
Okay, but a 2 1/2 twisting back layout is D. And a 2/1 front layout. Also, this doesn't excuse them all doing the same two skills before. Come on, is it so hard to add a whip and another back handspring or something? Maybe it is. I don't complain about lack of artistry, but there are four skills I'm sick of seeing: this pass, a full turn in front attitude on beam (be daring! Learn to do turns, Olympic athlete!), a double back pike dismount from beam, and a double layout flyaway.
That's only three acro D's to choose from in the entire floor code. I think GM does all three of them. Another back handspring or whip won't get any extra points for the gymnasts and the whip does make things more complicated - for no extra credit.
I realize that (about adding extra moves). I'm just grumbling. I guess I have to keep in mind that they aren't performing for us... they're competing. So they don't have to make it more interesting for us to watch.
I kind of wish WAG had an artistry score or something to encourage creativity. But I'm sure there won't be any more changes for a while.
Well, there is an artistry component in the score. It's just for the choreography though and I don't think the judges do much with it. GM is one gymnast who does put some effort into her choreography. Skill-wise, I don't think her first pass is that common. So there's some skill creativity.
The music was very boring and her tumbling was a bit untidy. The choreography was very modern and well done but overall it was an average performance.
i love this music!!!

double tuck shouldn't be anything it's horrid

Only when they let their knees separate. It's possible to do them with knees together. About one in twenty gymnasts do it!

Why did she score so low, she had a lovely routine.

Unfortunately, she didn't have enough difficulty to get a really high score. She has great choreo, though!
