I knew him as Alfie when he was alive as he lived in Southampton (I looked after his alarm system at the time). He was kerrrrrazily funny even as Alfie too (he was only Benny, on stage). He'll always be remembered regardless of the stupidity of the PC hellish world we live in today. One day, it will be illegal to laugh or smile if these PC knobheads have their ways!
@NeilTheFerret1 Sir: I do not mean to be pedantic, but I think I am correct in saying that big Joe Frazier beat the great Muhammad Ali in March 1971. Benny Hill's comedy hit "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)" was at number 1 in the charts some nine months later - in December '71.
When I was little I saw this on a Comic Relief TOTP2 special and it really disturbed me! I hated the ending ... and I heard it for the first time since then on Radio 2 the other morning. I don't know how I felt about it then! Blast from the past.
Probably the funniest song ever. Benny was a great comic. The P.C brigade put paid to his T.V show. It was harmless fun and considering the filth that they show today, pathetic to stop it.
How can any person dislike this, there are some strange people around that's the only reason i can find as without a doubt this is the best funny song EVER.
I got no time for Benny Hill's humour as per his endless-seeming Thames TV programmes.
But this is a great song - I remember when it came out, I was 6 yrs old and I loved it then, and I still do. Without going into a lot of music-theory bollocks, it is just about perfect .
Not long after this song came out, an "alternative lyric" version was spread by word of mouth..... and todays' numbnuts think Benny was "un-P.C". Ah well Benny had the last laugh, i mean here he is today ......ON YOUTUBE!!!
So unPC!! It should be-milkperson or milk distribution officer. Jamei Oliver, (another pom)in his latest booklet asked for; eggs-large,preferably higher welfare! Benny you got a lot to learn. DONT!!!!
Benny Hill a true English genius, a legend, I agree with Sabatinitennis so called pc has killed this country this is true English humor at it's best. Benny will live forever in the hearts of all who knew his comedy. ENGLAND IS DEAD, LONG LIVE BENNY HILL.
Sadly the PC brigade put paid to him - what a crap country I live in, as I can never find these folk who are allegedly offended .... do they really exist?
@hawickman Indeed there are, sir. (I believe that the great Clint Eastwood - 'Dirty Harry' himself - is a fan of the late, great Benny Hill, btw.)
As for that all-encompassing and pervasive phenomenon known as 'Political Correctness', it was unheard of when Mr Hill was @ number 1 in the charts, exactly 40 years ago, with his amusing little ditty: "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West"). There are many people of my generation - and older - who genuinely believe that 'PC' is
@Sabatinitennis No, it's always these people who are offended on behalf of others. The sort of people who say things like "You can't say that - black people / women / Jews will find it offensive" yet the black people / women / Jews never complain!
Respond to this video... Supposedly I'm in this easily offended category as I'm a disabled person. Well guess what Not only I'm NOT offended I loved watching Benny Hill I watched every series he had on all channels in the UK. This man was and still is a great comic genius unmatched by the present bunch of trolls we have today pretending to be comics
@yottskry12 EXACTLY, at some point in history it was decided that everyone is a bunch of pussys that the very mention of something they are/have and they get so offended it must be banned. True comedy comes from being able to laugh at yourself and others.
@yottskry12 Forgot I was a walking example! Exactly! Usernames that are self derogatory are plentiful when you first join YouTube and can't think of a unique name lol.
@colonelofcork My uncle Lou bought a milk run in Canberra during the 1980's and my sperm donating so called father drove it and yes his name is Ernie and so no doubt the combie got named Trigger.
this song is wonderful. i remember my father giving me a cd of this on, along with two little boys by rolf harris, they are two classics. both songs make me shed a tear or two in remembrance of how my dad was
I miss Benny Hill and his great sence of humor. I remember seeing his skits ,poems and songs for the first time and most of the time I laughed until my stomach hurt and tears rolled down my cheeks.Rest in peace Benny,we love ya.
I don't think you Brit's fully understand the real emotional connection we in the United States developed with Benny Hill and his outrageous brand of comedy. Benny had a wonderful sense of self deprecating humor which allowed him to connect with almost anyone.."been there done that". If anything I don't think Benny truly exploited his dollar Box Office impact and popularity here. It was so sad that this remarkably gifted man should decline so rapidly. Evidently Ben Elton was not solely to blame.
@cernuous We Brits hold our comedians very highly and yes, while tastes changed in the 80s there WOULD be no Little Britain, The Young Ones, Black Adder or any other number of comedy classics if not for the foundation laid by the traditional slapstick simplicity of British Classics like Benny Hill ...
@sunshineuklondon1965 , Benny was the perfect blend of slapstick, situational and stand-up comedy. One of his sketches was a Chinaman who bred cow's returning to the Isle of Wight from the "United States of a Miracle". Henry McGee and Bob Todd were the Custom Officials. Bob was the Indian at Immigration who announced to Benny " I'll be with you in a minute soon moment". He then asked "What do you do"?. Benny said "Bleeding Cow's". Bob answered "No, thats where", " I asked you what"?.....
Although difficult to follow and understand because of the speed of the banter, this was farce at it's highest level and Bob Todd "fed" Benny Hill beautifully. The chemistry of the entire cast including little Jackie Wright seemed to work so well.
Antenna TV features the Benny Hill Show here each Saturday night. He's on for three hours. I think the World misses the superb humor of Benny Hill; we need more like him.
@DavidHaze57 .......................fu ck Princess Diana. She was only called the people's princess cos most of the people had a wee shot at the slapper
A true comic genius, one of the greats, in fact he was even funnier than Alvin Stardust, well maybe not, seriously a great novelty song that always banishes the blues, fantastic
the old man cringes and goes in moan overload when the others turn up in their metal framed c50 wheeled dragsters with tinsel around the shafts...some even put feathers above the nose like a unicorn...he moans that the were only used at funerals not boxing day...he's right though the snobs aint got a clue...i asked do horses understand people like a dog or elephant...no he replied they just want to eat and if he dropped dead in the field the horse would just carry on eating
