Theyre vulnerable, theyre wise, theyre not naive or stupid enough to do careless things. They might not be heroes, but they do the work. They dont go berserk and the violence is the last resort for them (well, Dutch has to be violent because, well...he is a pirate, he cant be soft if he whants to plunder, not like the joke pirate whannabe Luffy).<--srry one piece and pirates of the caribbean fans...i dont want to burst your bubble, but real pirates ain't like Robin Hood.

Most of the characters that people mentions here appeal to violent, overpowered and/or invulnerable guys (mental and/or phsycally). Its rare to see a well developed character to enter on this list that has a real reason to do what they do. One character that i liked is "Dutch", from Black lagoon, a well balanced guy. Not a crazy gunman who goes berserk over gunfights but more of a rational guy, kinda similar to Jet Black from Cowboy bebop. Its rare that any of these characters protagonize.

i could suggest a character called alucard from a series called hellsing. he is badass personified. he baisically takes out an entire boat by crashing a plane into and taking it out in a tower of flame. he then walks out of the flames and slaughters the remainder of people on the boat. as for female characters, try red seras from hellsing as well, she sucks for most of the series but becomes badass around ova 7.

Try out Wrath from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. He took on a tank with ease while armed with only a sword. While you may think this is normal for a superpowered anime character to do, his only advantage during that fight was his speed, and it wasn't even that good.

@linik0007 Actually he's pronouncing it right, foreigners are just used to the wrong pronounciation. Same with manga. It's because typically in the Japanese language you use a lower A sound. You shouldn't have attacked him before doing your research, but you're right, Kenshiro is a badass.

Well, one of my personal favorites as of late is a character named Firo, he's basically a bad ass immortal mafia member from this generally unknown anime call Baccano. It's quite the good anime if you ever get the chance to watch it, I suggest watching the english dub though since Funimation did a simply fantastic job dubbing the show

@spiderleg13 watch the second movies final battle instead of combining into tengen toppa gurren laggan they transform into tengen toppa versions of there own gunmen (so theres tengen toppa lagan) then they combine into Chou Tengen Toppa gurren lagann its ten times the size of the regular tengen toppa gurren lagann and it looks like Kamina made of spiral energy. @WearWolfeAssassin That's how you're supposed to pronounce it. Foreigners are just used to it being pronounced incorrectly, but it's the same with manga. The thing is, Japanese usually has lower a sounds and so this guy is one of the few people who pronounces it correctly.
