@Anna91Huddy Yes, it's very sweet. :) Actually the hobbits had a lot of children which many were named after someone or something good they met or knew in their quest.
In the book their friendship is very strong, and stay after the war. For example, for Pippin's marriage Eowyn and Faramir send him presents, and Pippin calls his son Faramir.
I want to ask, do the actors are friends in real life? Miranda and David, I mean. I cannot find pictures of them together on the net at all apart from 2 .. :( I know they both live in Sydney ...
@ssssquare I don't know if they are friends in real life, but I know that they worked together before the movie, for an australian radio show. They had to simulate a sex scene in a bath and they said they were laughing during all the scene. So I think they know each other quite well and are friends, but I have no proof^^

At first I was swooning over (like every other girl in the world) Legolas or Aragorn... but as soon as I layed my eyes upon Faramir ... well, I never thought of the other two again. How can someone be sooo handsome...
They should have run the extended versions in the theater. The extended editions are on two discs; they could have had an intermission of ten or fifteen minutes between. It was common to do that way back when films like "Gone With the Wind" or "Ben-Hur" ran in the theaters.
The only reason they held back and released them later on DVD was to make more money by issuing all the films on DVD twice. That's New Line's right, but I think they cheated us by not showing all of it on the big screen.
I think this conversation can be seen in two levels: first is Pippin and Faramir getting befriended. The second is Faramir's inner child talking back at him.
I think this conversation can be seen in two levels: first is Pippin and Faramir getting befriended. The second is Faramir's inner child talking back at him.
The ways I can relate to this scene Are actually ridiculously similar. My older brother max is a starter for our varsity lax team, I'm second string jv. I'm empathetic and can think deeply and in a more abstract way then he can. And I don't mind spending a Friday night here or there with a good book. And I think out of the two brothers, I would be faramir, my brother boromir. Only, faramir and boromir have quite a good relationship. For me and my bro, it's about 60/40 good to bad.
Faramire is a hottie, no doulbt, but I loved the scene of the two brothers (in directors cut only) and like it the book they get along, and both can't stand the old man. Faramire is not a fighter-but he is good enough at it...like Aragorn he would rather reason...and when he sees the teen boy he shoot he says "who was he,his life just starting, and he ends up dead...Boromire would have put his foot on the kids head and said PARTY!
It is a good scene a little more in touch with the Faramir from the books even if not really, I do not know if the irony of such statement gets clear hopefully it will. Leaving the link of a little video /watch?v=VSlncmnpkSY hope you do like it and of course it is related to this video if not I would not leave it.
For my part Faramir is braver and maybe even stronger than Boromir. I dont think Faramir would be so easy corrupted by the ring as Boromir. I think he had been better use to the fellowship then Boromir.
Faramir is a good warrior. He managed to keep Osgiliath for a while. But then the orcs attacked in greater numbers and it was simply not possible to defend the city. Not even boromir would have been able to defend it.
@Kingofsomething87 took the words out of my mounth, even Boromir would have retreated to the attack on Osgiliath, especially after the orcs repaired the bridge.
i agree he was right to retreat to Minas Tirith they rlly could've used the help would won with barely any cost excepot until Grond came and smashed that door down but still would've held it much bettert place archers along the wall and have Faramir and Gandalf there to inspire them when the wraiths came man....wat a fight it would've been
@knightace2002 True, the skill and discipline of Faramir's archers could have been vital to defend the walls from the flying Nazgul. It would have been a much more even battle if Faramir and the osgiliath garrison would have survived
They look quite alike. They are quite alike, I think, though Faramir's obviously not as clumsy. Both gentle souls, not natural warriors, but can fight if they have to.
ive always thought of Faramir as being more of the book type: quiet, kind, but smart and cunning and wise and Boromir as the rough and tumble soldier. but i could totally see faramir running around as a kid slaying imaginary dragons ^_^ <3
@chrissyluvhorsey Faramir was more the Ranger type, agile, swift, and clever, while Boromir was more along the lines of a Fighter, strong, powerful, but not stubborn.
When Faramir says that Boromir was more like his father, he meant in thinking, in opinion.
Faramir also likely reminds Denethor of Aragorn. Aragorn and Denethor knew each other long ago. Aragorn, under a different name, was a Captain of Gondor. Denethor's father, Icthelion, favored Aragorn over Denethor.
Boromir, five years the elder, beloved by his father, was like him in face and pride, but in little else. Rather he was a man after the sort of King Eärnur of old, taking no wife and delighting chiefly in arms; fearless and strong, but caring little for lore, save the tales of old battles. Faramir the younger was like him in looks but otherwise in mind. He read the hearts of men as shrewdly as his father, but what he read moved him sooner to pity than to scorn. Appendix A
This is a bit wrong. Boromir was perhaps proud, like Denethor, but Faramir was more like his father in character.
Faramir was cunning and a great thinker, and preferred to learn lore than to fight. Boromir, however, best served his Father's purposes, which is why Denethor liked Boromir so much.
Denethor saw a lot of himself in Faramir - though their loyalties were perhaps different.
Well considering that the theatrical releases are already about 3 hours long, it only makes sense. Really, how many average movie goers are going to want to walk into the theater to watch a 5 hour long film?
@OmegaOwA wrong! it was 3 and a half hrs this has an hr and a half of extra scenes and footage with tons of stuff in the special features of the disc edited=3 1/2 hrs un-edited=4 1/2 hrs i own both so
The extended versions are each on multiple disks and arre each at least four and a half hours long. Everyone in the theater would have peed themselfs.
@RogueTheElfWarrior1 You can buy the dvd's with the extended editions. It's +4 hours in total (for all 3 films). Really worth it. They cut those scenes out cause it would be to long to be a cinema movie.
...and yet, for some reason, Denethor has the blood of the Numenor running strongly through him, so did Faramir, but Boromir didnt... yet Bonomir was his favorite... i still dont get how that works.
Well book Faramir maybe deffinetly not movie Faramir. I figure that movie Faramir (or as I call him Farfromthebookamir) would have surcomed to the same fate as his brother. They are a lot more alike in the movies then Jackson would like us to think.
Intersting thought, I have to agree. Faramir would have supported the felloswship better than Boromir did, with his wisdom and smartness, while Boromir would have defended Osgiliath better than Faramir did, for he is a warrior and a true leader. Both in their role, as it was meant to be. But because Denethor misjudged them both - there's a lot more tragic potential in the story.
Yeah, Pippin did name his son Faramir after Denethor's son. Pippin was buried in Minas Tirith when he died, having served as a Knight of Gondor and later the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor.
Faramir is actually one of, if not my, favorite character. Boromir is cool, in a different gung-ho sort of way. If Faramir had went instead of Boromir to Rivendell...not the Faramir from the movies but from the books (Peter Jackson REALLY FUCKED HIM UP IN THE MOVIES) then the entire series would have came out differently.
this is my second favorite clip in the movie. i love faramir and pippin and this is an awesome scene. i love it how much pippin knows faramir's pain. i heard pippin had a son and named him faramir...is that true??
why didn't they put this into the film. there are loads of deleted scenes that are not in the film that are better than some in the film anyway. SO??? But David's GORGEOUS and billyboyd ROCKS
he is FINE as hell! <3

@THeGreaterG00d so you share denethor's views

Yeah, Pippin did name his son Faramir after Denethor's son. Pippin was buried in Minas Tirith when he died, having served as a Knight of Gondor and later the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor.

The extended movies are way better, and make the movie have way more sense than the cut up version.
silverwolfangel 3 years ago 12
it is quite better the extended version than the original version

It's a pity that so many of the scenes developing Faramir were cut from the final movies. He was always cooler than Boromir.

Aw i love Pippin and Faramir. But Pippin must have been really on to it to guess that it was Faramir's straight off...

I thought he did Faramir pretty well, but they didnt portray Denethor very well.

Sam's daughter? You mean Sam Frodo's best friend? That's a little creepy since Pippin is like 23 here and Sam has no kids yet lol.
