Oh yea he most certainly is. A friend of mine was telling me that Chip & his son were going to work together at the time but wasn't 100% sure. I'm glad he had the chance to do that.
Good to know as I live right up the street! :-) Diamond St in Ravenna seems like the perfect place as, like you said, you can watch both lines with hardly any movement. Thanks for responding :-)
That would be fun. I have never really railfanned in particular except my crappy video of Amtrak at the same crossing so it would be nice for someone to show me the ropes. (It was at night and couldn't see anything) I actually live a couple of houses away from the NS-New Milford crossing and love hearing the trains. Was getting into HO Modeling but right now don't have the space so I'm stuck with dreams and Aurans TRS2006.
Yea it's a pretty good area to railfan at. Matter of fact when I was there filming the trains, a Portage Couny Sheriff deputy was sitting in his cruiser doing paperwork & watching & he never said anything at all. Another good place to railfan is in Ravenna, about 5 miles west of where I was. There you have NS crossing over CSX.
Reminds me of my buddy that retired from the NS but he invented something new for NS and is touring about his idea! I am happy for him and best regards to your buddy Chip-age! Nice catch-age, Al-age, LOL!
Thank you Kevin-age. Yea Chip is a great guy to get along with & will be missed on the rails. He was about the only person I got to know really well. What is your buddy's idea that he has for NS? Keep up the vid-age, your doing a fantastic job.
Nice catch, Alan. I wish I had a chance to work with Chip before he retired. I would have loved to hear some of the old war stories from his days on the PC and early Conrail...working out of Alliance and Minerva to name a few.
Thank you Joe. Chip is a really a good person to get along with. Along with a couple of others I know as well. My apologies for removing your 2nd comment that you posted. You can post it back up here.
Nice video Alan! Chip was a good friend of Dave Mangold, a Norfolk Southern engineer who belongs to the Akron Railroad Club and is a good friend of mine. He missed seeing Chip this day, and was pretty upset about it.
Also, was that "Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits" on the last train?
Thank you Rich!!! I remember you telling me about Dave. Would really like to him sometime. If he wants, I can make him a copy to keep. Yea that was the last train that did the "Shave & a Haircut 2 Bits".
I'm sure Dave would appreciate that. He has made the last couple of meetings, so you'll probably run into eventually. Although there is not another club meeting until January. He is a nice guy. Strange/funny/goofy, but nice!
Cool. I will take care of that. Will have to make it to January's meeting to give it to him then since I missed last month's. Like those 3 characteristics you put about him. Just the kind of person I like...........lol.
Colorful vocabulary, angry personality, funny, disgruntled, you name it, it's all rolled up into one! Good guy to know! He's very entertaining, and nice!
Chip is a good guy. It was great that Chip and his son got to work together one week at Canton before he retired.

You're quite welcome! Maybe we can hook up to do some railfanning right there at Diamond St.

Is where you shot the footage in Rootstown a good railfanning site?

Nice catches Alan. Whatever Chips next job will be I'm sure his next job will still invole the railroad ndustry, or I'm wrong if he's retiring.

Thank you Ryan. He retired after that run. He worked for the railroad for almost 40 years. He started back in the Penn Central era.
