Don't really know what to say. I've used FAMAS, Colt Commando, and other assault rifles. I've come to the conclusion that the worllds best assault rifle is Finnish made RK-95. It has a foldong stock, Grenade launcher and most importantly very few moving parts. It is very expensive, about 500 and over euros.

I have extensive experience with a Colt AR 15 that only very rarely jams. Craig- I'm guessing you have never been in the military. My platoon was issued m4 rifles. We did not buy them. The M16 is actually a very good rifle, the things holding it back is the fact that it is very high maintenance and it overheated a lot. This is actually one of the things that screwed the Americans over during Vietnam. The soldiers M16's always get dirty and jam easily because it was designed for urban warfare and not in swamps, forests, etc. Which also means it is not designed to get wet or dropped in dirt. The m4 is an m16 renamed from a m16a2.

Plastic is tougher and doesn't rot like wood does.

M16's are in fact better than the M4,the M4 has a shorter barrel making a slower velocity and a shorter range.

Moreover,the reduced length means that the gasses are entering the bolt area hotter and dirtier than with the longer version.

It doesn't really matter which .223 you use in Afganistan,they are all under powered for the distances involved.

I think so,when I was in the "butts" in Parris Island pulling targets for the 500 yd relay,when the rounds hit the targets at that range,they still made the usual bang noise as if a firecracker went off.

I also used to watch the rounds impact the water way behind the target range and see how much of a splach it would make.

You can see the range layout on Google earth and how the water is part of the impact zone.

You know what would be great, if we switched to a bullpup design. Take the Kel Tec RFB for example. It is a bullpup rifle that fires the 7.62x51 NATO round. Currently the biggest magazine for it is a 20 rounder, but I dont see it out of the question to design a 30 round magazine.
