  • ur son seems normal 2 me..but i guess w/help n training helps..i am waiting for my 3 1/2 yr old son get fully assessed he mite possibly have high functioning autism..i am lost and confused idk if he does? tell me how ur son was at age 3 n 4..5 my son knows alot for a 3 yr old but he's delayed in his talking. hes pretty normal but has a delay in talking ..talks to himself n repeats things frm tv sumtimes. he wonders in public only bc he's hm all the time..idk? sumtimes he seems off but then idk

  • He is just like my little brother

  • I'm planning to see a psychologist regarding this. and hopefully I can find help on how I can handle the problems I am facing in this outside world! and thanks for posting this video:) you're son is such a nice boy, and I believe he'll find his gift and talents and be a successful person someday! cheers!

  • I've been reading up about autism lately on wiki as well as watching videos on you tube about autistic people. I have now learn to understand myself better and why people stare at me... it's because of my awkward posture and the way I walk as well as my repetitive movements when I'm thinking of things, and it's impossible not to think! so the repetitive movements will definately appear:(

  • and everytime people discribe how autistic people are like, I start tearing up, because I could relate exactly how they feel, because I respond the way an autistic person do and for my whole 23years of life I've been so confused and I have been asking my mother, "mum, why am I different? I just don't get it:( why is it that people stare so hard at me" and my mum's response to me was always "YOU ARE NOT DIFFERENT! STOP SAYING YOU ARE DIFFERENT!!" and I ended up not talking to her..

  • Hi, my name is Emaline. I started realising I was different since I was about 7 because of they way people talk to me, I was always made fun of and I did not talk to anybody in my class and I access my other world too easily and was always easily distracted by sounds and movements. I also make repetitive movements as I talk to people and I can't look them in the eye or I wouldn't be able to focus. my mum have been denying that I belong to one of the AS group or maybe she didn't notice.

  • hi

From my experience even doctors don't all have a full understanding of Autism. I was lucky to have a really knowledgeable psychologist to explain it all to me, and also the language development issue was confirmed by the info on the National Autistic Society. Have a look at there website it will explain the difference between Aspergers and High Functioning Autism . Hope it helps.

  • He chews on things and he will pace a lot. He did some hand flaping when he was younger, not so much now.

  • Random question, I'm 15 and i have autism and ever since I was very little I have always done hand flaps and jumped (referred to as "stimming") when I'm realy excited, does connor do any sort of stims? I know it's an odd question, I'm just curious :)

  • Hello. actually high functioning autism is slightly different from aspergers in that those with hfa (like me) would have had delayed speech as a child. This is not the case for those with aspergers

  • @sound4media I have been told he has hfa, and aspergers by different doctors. He didn't say anything till he was 27 months old. I think he has aspergers, even though he was slow to talk. He has always been fixed on only one or two things. Right now he LOVES the rubiks cube. He can solve it in like 20 seconds. He is a neat kid.

  • Happy birthdayyy!!!! :D

  • You did a real great job doing this video with your son :-)This is so much like my husband when he was a little boy we were childhood bestfriends When your son has a girl that a childhood friend he would end up marrying her there a reason why cause AS seen to contect to best friend better because you know your bestfriend would know you alot better then anyone esle. Never be judged

  • Happy early birthday Conner. My six year old is in the process of being diagnosed,he LOVES bugs!!!!!!

  • High Functioning Autism is when they can not speak

  • @IndigoCat17 speech is just delayed for a while. Dont worry this kid will grow up happy and might just grow out of most of the symptoms over time like I did. Surprise, I am an aspie myself :)

  • My son also is named Connor. He is an aspie, he loves his wii, he hates airplanes, loves the internet, doesnt like sports.....time driven and well spoken just like your Connor :)

    Asperger kids are so amazing.

  • @rochelleandconnor Thanks for the good outlook on Aspergers syndrome. I noticed that It is becoming more common in children these days compared to when I was growing up.

The best thing to do is just give children with Aspergers is alot of patience and plenty of understanding. I am a 22yr old aspie myself and I hope that there is more support groups and places where people can go to get insight on this.

  • He reminds me of my son. I had him tested and he has (officially) an LD, ADHD and anxiety issues. (He has more unofficially.) When I questioned about him having Aspergers I was told that it wasn't possible because "he has good eye contact". He goes for a second opinion this summer.

  • He reminds me of my son, the way he talks, the way he responds to certain questions. He's recently had a working diagnosis of adhd/asd. It was first put to me that my boy could be autistic when he was 5. My friend came to our kids birthday party, and after spending just 2 hours with my son told me she could see autistic behaviours in him (she has 2 boys on the spectrum). This was also mentioned by the paediatrician who saw him after years of being dismissed by various people.

  • Yes I have been trying to get him diagnosed since he was 4 and they came up with Global Developmental Delay which he is not that everybody i have spoken with like teachers and teachers-aids they all say Aspergers but the Doctors and O T's and Pediatritans are not saying anything and it's driving me nuts cos the sooner i know the more i can be reassured of a proper diagnosis and what i can do to help him, I'm doing my best now but i cant say he has anything cos he hasn't been diagnosed!

  • My son i believe has Aspergers but he loves people way to much, he does avoid eye contact when you talk to him, he gets mad easly about anything, he loves drawing houses or building houses with his duplo blocks and he loves trains, he can watch cartoons for hours if i let him, he thinks it's ok to climb on people and he has no idea of stranger danger! there are many other things but it's alot to list!

  • @TheJessChant It's still possible for your child to have Asperger's. Just because he doesn't fit the textbook example of Asperger's does not mean he doesn't have it. Some people with Asperger's have their specializations but do not have meltdowns. Others have meltdowns but *love* being around people. I think its best to have your child tested when you have the money, just for safe measure.

  • Hi, when was he diagnosed? When he was younger, did he ever throw "tantrums" at school? (I put tantrums in quotations, because it seems kind of like a meltdown...) Also, just one more quick question..my son (who is also named Connor)..in school, his classmates would be like, "Hi, Connor!!" and Connor would just keep walking without saying Hi back...(this was in kindergarten)...he's now in Grade 1 and is a little bit used to his school so does say Hi back when reminded..

  • @sarawenttowinnipeg

He was diagnosed when he was 8. I did have people ask me if he could have autism when he was much younger(like 3). He was like that too, when kids said hi to him, just would not even look at them. He is better now, after a few years of social skills training.

  • @our4greatkids

How did you get "social skills training"? What do you mean by that? Was it through school or privately? That's exactly what my daughter needs. I just don't know the best way to go about it.

  • @our4greatkids

Where do you get "social skills training"? That's just what my daughter needs. Where do I find such help? Thanks!

  • @eaugallieguy Sorry if this is random, but when I needed social support with my Aspergers, I tried Jewish family services in California and found a nice support group ran by a mother who had 2 kids with Aspergers around my age.

Perhaps there are support groups in your area? Wouldn't hurt to look :)

  • Hey, to me he seems normal but needs to spend less time in front of the computer and more sunshine. Sorry but why do u keep bringing up the fact he only has two friends like it's not normal. Two good friends is better than none! Would u rather him be cool and popular or do well in school?

  • After awhile you get tired of hearing the word "normal"...you know what "normal" is? Boring.. and I think the most brilliant people out there were never "normal"...@kikiazure2

  • Thank you for your response. I will check w/his eye doctor. Did you have a heck of a time during the break-in period? And do you know if kids with Aspergers function better with contacts than with glasses? I can see some definite pros w/contacts.

    Thanks.

  • @rancar29 It wasn't to bad, he got used to them pretty fast. I don't know if kids with AS do better with them. We had to change eye doctors and this Dr. gave me a hard time about how young he was and he shouldn't have them if he couldn't put them in. I then told him Connor has autism and he was better about it. I really hated to to change eye doctors, but had to for insurance reasons.

  • So cute! He acts and even looks a bit like my little guy. He wears contacts at his age? How? My son would lose them, dropping them constantly. He forgets his glasses all the time. "Can you sit still and look at Mommy." The answer with my son is "No". He gets a bit irritated and raises his voice a bit - you may not notice it because you could be used to it. It's a burr in our side. Both my son and listen better when we're not looking at the speaker.

  • @rancar29 He would not wear glasses for anything! He didn't like the way they felt. He need to see, so I told him contacts or keep the glasses on, he picked contacts. He has had them almost 3 years. He is 11 and he can't put them in, I do it. The school nurse has had to put them in if he has a problem at school.

    Yes he is cute!

  • I am most certain my son almost 6yrs old and my daughter almost 4 both have AS and I believe they got it from me. My son talks like your son it's funny they way he responds

  • Hey Connor, My son Brandon is 10 like you and he also has High Functioning Aspergers....He loves all the same things you do tooo,Thank you sooo much for letting your mummy speak to you and post this on youtube...now Brandon can watch and see he isnt different cause he has you now :)

  • @sherree2001 Tell Brandon hi for us. I'm sure he's a great kid.

  • Hello I have question for you...did your son ever try wondering out of the house when he was younger? love to hear back from you, my son is going for autism test, alot of people think he has alot of aspergers

  • my son is 8 last week he was diagnose with aspergers. my son hate to leave the house too. and like to read a lot of science book. he been obsessive with a lot of thing . now he is into building robot.
