I usually finds a blast on the horn awakens these daydreamers, followed by a look of utter disgust for daring to wake them. Although it usually tends to be people trying to straight line the roundabout with me.
Here in the US we don’t have that many, so people aren’t used to them, which makes it worse because many are not sure how to use them properly. They either blast in to one or they stop and wait until someone lets them go, or a big enough space comes by.
@JohnnyCmr2 But it was close enough to force me to stop my car before hitting his car. I didn't get an e-mail about your video response, so will have a look for it. Thanks for letting me know.
@andig4 Yeah, and I did pay attention... which is why I braked very quickly before he hit me! As soon as I blasted the horn at him, he moved back to his own lane.
From the title I was expecting the driver to drive straight over the top of the roundabout (like I see taxis do daily LOL) Concrete islands, roundabouts, gutters, peoples lawns... All the same thing :D
I wish I sorted out my camera for the car, yesterday I would have recorded a driver stopping after a large 40mph roundabout and then reversing back on to the roundabout because they had taken the wrong exit.
I'd say there are several things wrong here. First he's indicating left and goes straight. Second this looks like a newly build roundabout and has no markings making progress confusing, (giveway, lanes) Thirdly as there are no lanes marked on the roundabout itself and as he is ahead he has right of way! This doesn't condone him not using his mirrors but I would suggest that you cannot assume right of way when there is no clear markings. Check your space and proceed with caution!
@mostdom The sun glare did not help, but there ARE lanes marked on the road & roundabout... 0:09 is the start of splitting to 2 lanes. And there are lanes on the roundabout which are 2 lanes.
Houses are about a year old but roundabout are at least 3 or 4 years old.
See Google Maps link - (remove spaces) - g.co /maps/ w977s - for the full view of the road, the roundabout and the line markings. :)
@t1sutton Ok, I'll take that back, the man's a numpty. Wasn't sure about the approach but couldn't see anything on the roundabout itself. However he is still ahead, so as always proceed with caution.
@mostdom Indeed. 0:14 is where we both slowed down to allow the car to pass, so he should have used the usual mirror check before moving off. But he didn't, just being lazy. Anyway, glad this is now resolved-ish for now. :D
Some people just have no flipping clue...one of the problematic r/b's near my parents house always gets this sort of behaviour. Not helped by a slightly add entrance on one side that encourages you to race through and the "straight ahead" being just off a normal straight line! If going right round you normally end up with lane cutting and then people ignoring you on the opposite side!!
@diiebane Spot on. The driver was supposed to stay on their lane, but he was being lazy and drove straight.
In the UK we have 1, 2, 3 and 4 lanes roundabout, marked with white lines. It only works well if everyone stayed in their lanes, but sadly doesn't always happens. :(
@t1sutton Where I live in Romford, Essex, there is a 3 lane roundabout called 'Gallows Corner'... and you certainly would want to hang some of the drivers! It's not like other 3 lane roundabouts though, it's quite mental and scares the pants of loads of drivers new to it! lol Check it out on Google Maps, you'll see how barmy it is. Being in the wrong lane, cutting up other drivers, and simply not indicating are all everyday occurrences there.
Seriously annoys me when cars don't stick to there lane on roundabouts. Theres a mini roundabout near where I live that most people just go straight over. The over day I filmed someone go round it the wrong way.

Not even that close. But then you didn't approve my video response to show you what close really is!!

I had trouble understanding the fault here, there aren't any 2 lane roundabouts in Germany, or at least I have not encountered them where I live.
The other driver tried to take a shortcut by cutting the roundabout and driving over to your lane instead of driving around on his?
