Two percent more in taxes is almost nothing to the vast vast majority of the working class, whereas two percent for billionaires is tens of millions of dollars each. This tax deal was just another governmental swipe at the middle class.
All of this is really simple. You can explain the recession in a number of ways, but the reason we are still in it is because THE TOP 1%, THE MOST RIDICULOUSLY WEALTHY PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY, ARE HOLDING ALL THE MONEY IN OUR ECONOMY HOSTAGE. There's no way to have the collective buying power that drives our economy, without lots of workers making money, GOOD money. And we're not. We make the same, pay more, work more, and the top 1% is doing JUST fine. It HAS to change.
'Yes we can' continue the Bush legacy of screwing over the middle and working class and giving everything to the elite. Obama needs to stand on a battle ship with a large sign behiind him saying 'MISSION ACCOMPLISHED' the people fell for it again!
@StunnedByStupidity Obama has caved, but there's no way anyone could have succeeded in everything he tried to promise, without the massive support of all who voted for him.. And unfortunately, most of those people don't call or write their senators, and only a few vote regularly in other elections. A movement was building under Obama, but it shouldn't have been about getting him elected, it should have been about how we all start calling shit out.
@smekese They are in the next Congress, but generally I'm surprised that Tea Party supporters aren't in the streets shouting about nearly a trillion dollars added to national debt. Good Point.
This is the only way to do it. How does Obama not see the way Republicans are working things? They will be as ruthless with him as they were with Clinton. They will not compromise. Republicans need an opponent who will FIGHT BACK or they will steamroll their way into the white house in 2012. If only a fraction of the bonus going to the rich with their tax cut is donated to Republicans in the free-for-all system we have, the Democrats are screwed. Win the battle, lose the war
Que all the Republicans crying foul. I can see it now. "The filibuster is an old and rarely used political sneak tactic. The fact that he is willing to use such an underhanded technique blah blah blah."
The 99'ers are getting screwed because of the millions of those that have and are going to get kicked off unemployment benefits.I talked to a guy at the grocery store and he said that it feels like he just got kicked in the gut.He wonders what they will do with 3 kids and a wife. Those people got thrown under the bus.So lets give 700 billion tax dollars to the rich instead.Obama gave the GOP exactly what they wanted.Dems where are your balls? I forgot even Pelosi caved in to their demands.
I lose more respect for Obama daily. Of course this is like the public option debate all over. It's yet another issue with massive public support he caved on without ever really fighting. At least during the healthcare debate the republicans had to struggle to win. This time around they didn't even have to make their case. He just folded from the jump. Weeeeeeeaaak

POTUS: "Notion....compromise too much?....."
No, dummy.... You compromised everything and then some more.
Only independents like Bernie and progressive dems are worth of our support.
Obama is and always will be a "wannabe" conservative republican.

Nice to see a real fighter in action. But he will never make the administration in the Weak House change anything.
