For this movie to be about whether or not androids are humans, should be treated as humans, memories and such, they could of did a far better job. The replicants are suppose to be very deadly but he kills three of the four of the six within seconds. What is up with that? The answer is simple, if it's not a human then it's not a human, no soul. The movie probably makes fans care about it because of emotions, HAL had feelings no one gives a shit about him because he looks like a red light.
It's only theorized that his is, but it is very unlikely since the police he works with built up a reputation around him for being a seasoned veteran in the Blade Runner office, extinguishing the possibility that he is a replicant because he would be older than four years old, the age at which all replicants die.
How do you KNOW that, though? His "reputation" could simply be part of a set of false memories, with Bryant and Gaff simply being in on it to further convince Deckard of his own perceived humanity. What better way to hunt replicants than to send another replicant after them - why endanger a human? There is soooooo much more evidence in favor of him being a replicant than not.
Completely agree with you ZZ, I myself attempt to dissect SOME of the evidence in my review. Looks like this set of reviews should be interesting, as there are so many layers and interpretations to Blade Runner!
Oh believe me, Raz, we're not alone! Theyre's MASSIVE, detailed FAQ's out there that break down the evidence for both sides of the argument. The lis tin favor or Deckard being a Replicant is exponentialy larger than him being human... :)
Then I'll play devil's advocate by saying Deckard feels a lot more pain than the Replicant, Roy Batty is capable of showing a spike through his hand no problem, Rick Deckard can barely take a beating. For that matter why would Tyrell make a broken down old and weak Replicant?
I always thought it was to make him appear more human cuz as Z just said what better way to hunt replicants than to send another replicant after them? Why endanger a human?
