@GrahamChapman Yes, women have had chances to attempt it in numerous societies, including our own. In the past few generations, anything where both genders are given an equal chance sees the men achieve more. There have been many other equal-rights societies, e.g. the druids, where things still tended to be male driven.
Again, it's very much logical - men are better at problem solving (e.g. iventing something to perform the tasks we need performed) due to their hunting-based brains.

@GrahamChapman Men certainly do not take credit for women's achievements, but they don't have to considering what they've managed themselves.
Even in female-dominated fields, it is almost always the men who outperform. Just look at things like tailors, dancers, chefs and jewellers.
It is the male hunter's mind that is the cause for this. Hunting meant that men developed a better ability for problem-solving and thus a higher level of intelligence, and this is the cause of male success.

So yes, why is that? Because men, time and time again, do it better. We perform better across the board - so no, it could not be one big dick-swinging contest. Get it right, you fool. And part of the reason why men don't go to university is much to do with other opportunities which men are given because, again, men perform better at these too. Apprenticeships, learning a trade and going straight into the workforce are things men do more because they're more respected there - and do it better.

@GrahamChapman And it isn't just because of our society gearing itself to entertain men more, it's that there are MORE things in this world that entertain men. Racing, fighting and competing - natural things - entertain men and there are few female equivalents.
Let's not forget that men tend to get far more enthused by things than women; see men's reactions to a sports-related victory, and compare it to any female equivalent.
There's also the fact that most hobbies are dominated by men.
