I never even made it through the whole movie. There should be a "download" grade for when it's so bad, you shouldn't even have to pay for it. This would be the first movie to get that grade.
After seeing this movie, I'm starting to question the minds of anime fans. I mean, they complain when an adapation isn't true to its source and they complain if it is true to its source... I'm starting to think their reason for hating American adapations of anime is the same reason they write off every single English dub, even the good ones, as being bad. In those sequences, all the bad actions, bad choreographies are laid bare to the audiences and it looks amateurish and got boring really, really fast. I mean, come on, overblown and exaggerated actions are what the Wachowskis do best, and here, there is many of those boring normal parts (the ninja fight scene crossed the line).

Over the top villains, super-powered cars, racing & how it effects the world, funny dialogue("Warning, this scene contains cooties..."). Heck, Trixie LOOKED LIKE Trixie!(tho' the slutty clothes were a bit much...)! True, some of the history is revamped like the C.I.B being the gadjit makers of the M-5, but why wud bullet proof a race car?

Though the dialouge did get pretty long at times, this movie completely made up for it with some of the most stylish, kick-ass action sequences I've ever seen; the Casa Cristo race, especially, was jaw-dropping in theaters. Not that I hope every car chase is green-screened in the future. That'd suck. But it worked in this movie.
Couple that with some cheesy yet really fun acting and a message about commiting to art that really touched me, and I give this a very high FULL PRICE.

HOWEVER, if you can look past that and see message of families staying tight together, fighting for what's right in spite seemingly insurmountable odds, and Speed's journey of self-discovery, it opens up a whole new level to this movie. I thought this movie would be terrible. Honestly the original cartoon isn't even that well made (mostly because its so old and low budget.) Anyway I thought it was really exciting and unique. I love the details in the tracks and the world like the running zebra design on the wall, you can see it in this review. I bet this would look great on blu-ray, I gotta watch it again!

Adaptations should match the audience expectations. The people who watch the old anime grew up and wanted a mature, no nonsense approach. Which I guess filmmakers don't understand. They still target kids who doesn't have a clue about Speed Racer, it's just not right.

Honestly, this movie sucked. It really was just a lot of pretty colors for all the stupid people to enjoy. Just like 300 was a lot of over-acting and pretty colors. And Transformers.
Speed Racer made no sense, and was filled with scenes that could've gotten me blind if I was an epileptic and I saw it at the cinema. Especially 3:29. It wasn't bad or good; the original Speed Racer had 85% realism while this was kinda like some Mario Kart game on a lot of cannabis. 0_o
If it had a better plot and visuals that weren't too cartoonish or epileptic, it would've kicked ass. A rental indeed, as long as it doesn't get rented on Blu-Ray! :O
Personally, I liked this movie a lot: I went in expecting to see a cartoon with real people in it, and that's exactly what I got. If you went in expecting anything else you were deluding yourself!
This movie was garbage. I didn't care about anything in this movie and the CGI races were booooring!!!! It was like watching plastic car toys race, but even when cars jumped or did stunts. The action was so fast, that there was no time to be wowed by it and why would you be. It's all in computer. There's no element of danger. This movie is a sad piece of shit!
God can't tell you how much I hated this movie. For one thing, the CGI looked cheap; it's like someone puked up paint and threw it on the backgrounds! The racing scenes were fun to watch, though; that's the only credit I can give this film. I give it a high Some Ol' Bullshit.
I kinda liked it, but that's mainly because i loved the racing bits.

Full Price - A great movie that's worth the time and money value that it offers 4/5.
Matinee - It's theater worthy but not perfect nor great or excellent as higher leveled movies, more like a middle 3/5.
Rental - Near crap and isn't at all worth seeing at a movie theater but is OK to rent at home for a low price 2/5.

dude, I loved this movie. I expected it to be lame and was pleasantly surprised.
I like how the point of the movie isn't "race because it is your calling." I loved how it actually had a plot. I wish real racing was like this.

I would give this movie a Mattine. The character I hated the most was the kid that played Sprittle. I found him more annoying in the live action than the cartoon version.
All that screaming he did during the movie, I wanted to punch him.

Speed Racer made no sense, and was filled with scenes that could've gotten me blind if I was an epileptic and I saw it at the cinema. Especially 3:29. It wasn't bad or good; the original Speed Racer had 85% realism while this was kinda like some Mario Kart game on a lot of cannabis. 0_o
If it had a better plot and visuals that weren't too cartoonish or epileptic, it would've kicked ass. A rental indeed, as long as it doesn't get rented on Blu-Ray! :O

Personally, I liked this movie a lot: I went in expecting to see a cartoon with real people in it, and that's exactly what I got. If you went in expecting anything else you were deluding yourself!

This movie was garbage. I didn't care about anything in this movie and the CGI races were booooring!!!! It was like watching plastic car toys race, but even when cars jumped or did stunts. The action was so fast, that there was no time to be wowed by it and why would you be. It's all in computer. There's no element of danger. This movie is a sad piece of shit!

God can't tell you how much I hated this movie. For one thing, the CGI looked cheap; it's like someone puked up paint and threw it on the backgrounds! The racing scenes were fun to watch, though; that's the only credit I can give this film. I give it a high Some Ol' Bullshit.
