To use Royalguard, you have to press the style button right as an enemy hits you. The timing is very difficult, but it's much easier if you use it during invincibility frames (beginning of jump, rolling, etc.) Release can also be timed to become a counter-attack, although it's much more potent in DMC3. Release does damage proportionate to the energy stored in the Royal Gauge, which goes up when you block attacks.

u noe that repel the orb move can be done with any move at the right timing right?i first found it out when i did an EX high roller in ldk mode.m19 1st dice advancement.i was high rolling the biancos when i noticed that the alto fired an orb at me.i was like shit!!!!!!!!then the orb bounced back at ALL of them.pure ownage.

you hold down the O button just a little bit past the end of the grabbing animation so that it turns into an enemy shield move, and let go right after you've held it long enough so that the grab becomes an enemy shield move but before Nero starts falling, so you don't lose any altitude but you also don't slam the enemy to the ground, or swing him around and through him in the Frost's case (because when you release O in an enemy shield move, you just let go of the enemy without damaging him).

Sorry, ran out of characters...that move is kind of just a finesse thing though, doesn't really do damage or increase your style rating, just looks cool (and is also sort of useful as an easy way to stay safe in the air if an enemy below you is winding up an attack()

Yes you do, I forgot to mention that. The combo is basically:

O(HOLD), X, O (HOLD), X for as many times as you want.

Remember you have to hold the style button (O) long enough for it to become an enemy shield, which is about 1.75 sec before you release it then quickly press jump before grabbing again.
