I bought the 5d2 and Im disappointed. Bad image, bad color, poor automatic white balance, poor definition, poor focus, very bad JPG files, bad raw files. Maybe good for video but not good for shooting.

My lumix g1, my nikon d70 and my pentax k20d have more dynamic color... I have never seen a good picture taken with canon 5d2.

@deaikai  I don't know what camera you are using man. What lenses were you using on it. The only bad thing I could say about the MK II is since it has a 21 MP sensor is it will show exactly how bad a lens really is, so with a bad lens you will get bad results. The 5D Mk II is the best camera from Canon I have ever used, amazing Dynamic Range, amazing colors, great focusing with good lenses, and so on. It has never let me down.

I compared NIKON D700 and this camera.

I also have NIKON. BUT!!! Picture quality on Canon,sharpness crystallite much more detail on zoom is incomparable better than D700.

Prices are same.

sure you can see a huge difference on the pictures BUT!!! the D700 has only 12.1 mp whereas the 5d mark ll hast 21.1. You better should make the fair comparison of a 5d mark ll with a nikon d3x which has 24.1 mp.

You hope for a nice portable, semi-pro FULL HD camera? You almost have it. Except for one thing (never exposed on any Canon sponsored videos): everything you film is FULLY AUTOMATIC. It's deliberately set to FULL AUTO ISO/SHUTTER mode, you have ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER THE PICTURE. MANUAL MODE is blocked. The HD picture is hugely compressed, posterized and it tends to strobe, not because of 25p: the data flow is TOO SLOW and the image stops from time to time. And it's not the SD card...

Attention has been switched to looking at producing web-content for news websites. It's a fantastic starting point but the feature is implemented for future development. It can also be used for those who just simple have money to dick around with too!

that's a pretty silly question. obviously it's a selling point for SOME people, and for those who don't want it, fine. they won't use it. this is the first gen and i'm sure it will improve over time to the point that pro videographers might consider it, or pro photographers might start shooting video. and if you've got all these great lenses for your SLR, a lower end or even a prosumer camcorder isn't going to excite you.

strange... works on my 40D.... i havent cleaned the sensor manually yet and I have changed lenses quite a lot outdoors..... cleaned the sensor on my 350D manually about 10 times in a year... had the 40D for about 6 months now...

Unfortunately when I went to Europe with then the new 30D, I had no idea dust would be an issue. And what do I do, I change lens in a hay field in Germany. The end.

I might as well taken spray paint and fired it at the sensor.

I now resist changing lenses after Canon cleaned it.

A second body seems the way to go.

Oh yea, there is different dust.

Don't chg if anywhere near RC gas hobby. Raw fuel exhaust vapor floats forever.

I'll definitely bear that in mind!i can imagine small hay particles and fuel vapur would be attracted to a hole in a canon body, like the whole lot was magntised! i purchased an IS (stabilized) 18 - 200mm sigma lens to avoid having to change lenses when i am out and about.Agreed on the 2nd body too... mount the lenses in a clean environment and no problem..

It's not that big a deal. Although I can see where some feel this way.

It's just that live view is already in place, and they are just taking advantage of it.

My old Canon G5 from 2003, w/live view does video, and does it quite well for it's time.

So it's not like they invented a new process.

But I am fussy on sharpness, and I hope I'm not disappointed with the 5DMII.

I'll give them one more chance, then it's Nikon's turn.

To a point, I won't argue that. My 30D disappoints me about 50% of the time. I really wish I could determine if it's me or the camera. But it's not like I'm careless in focus. It seems to back focus in a group shot and head behind is in focus instead of front subject. So I'll plus this posting.

To help fight this, I now bring high power Surefire light to confirm focus in low light.

The Lens has an awful lot to do with focusing! I have a 10D and my wideangle and standard lens focus perfectly every time low light or not. My Canon zoom on the other hand i hate. I want it changed but i cant afford to change it.

So look to your lens' not the camera body.
