  • Chris is not only better singer, he is pretty much sexier!

  • Katie Melua does it way better, sorry guys, respect! but

Katie makes this song more precious

  • one of the most beautiful melancholic melody i'd ever heard, both ron and chris are great.. and the words are deep, it's not as simple as saying the words i-love-you.. oh yeah it's gold in them hills!!

  • Chris-da-best

  • Sexsmith is the worse last name to have

  • @narutorock998 incorrect...

    watch?v=vuZeU-SjgJQ

  • @BaconTelevision2 whats the worst need to know now

  • VOn COldplay hört sich das Lied genauso toll an. Finde dieses Lied einfach super.....

  • he needs a bit of crack in his song, he has no energy in the way he sings

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ^_^

  • ron sexmith is absolute class, fantastic musician and songwriter with a touch of mellancholly wich makes him all the more endearing.

  • too beautiful for words .

  • amo esa cancion yeahhhh!!!! amazing :D

  • reminds me of the beatles....amazing....

  • smooth. like. silk.

  • at 1.33 is is better

  • Chris <3

  • the first time I heard this song was because I though that is od COLDPLAY and the voice of Ron Sexsmith is close to Will Champion and I though that it was him...

  • @0922857495 lol same.

  • Ron played at the Bush Hall, London in February wih Fran Healy and Graham Gouldman. I can walk to Bush Hall in 3 minutes from my flat but, SOLD OUT! He is playing one concert in London in April at the Barbican Theatre, SOLD OUT! (bit of a pattern forming here) Can someone tell whoever is his management is that Ron is far better than you seem to think he is. We do have bigger venues here in London.

  • @RoadhouseKiss check his website they have extended the UK leg of the tour, he will also be playing Glastonbury.

  • errr... this is a Warren Zevon Cover???

  • Checkout Nowadays. It'll kill ya.

  • this is a great song, and Martins part is great, I had no idea he was part of this

  • Just discovering Ron after tracking down a song I fell in love with on William and Mary, a British TV show. This is gorgeous!

  • this vid deserves more views

  • @SunshineRox007 Amen.

  • what a beautiful song...

  • woawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !

  • Original song if anyone's interested... blablatube/watch?v=5mxQ0PcL_MU (youtube doesnt seem to let me post links properly)

  • I listen to this song when I really need hope. It's a beautiful piece of music.

  • He's just sampled the whole damn song. This Sexsmith guy is zero compared to Chris Martin. Martin is a genius. Not a song sampler.

  • @ranajeetruud

When you say he's sampling this song, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying he didn't write it? Or are you saying he's using sampled instruments?

  • @MegaCrasher2000 Ron wrote it, the original is available on youtube as well which I much prefer to this version. This version is pretty much Ron's original with the addition of a misfitting beat and a low freq bass. They're both great musicians but imho it didn't really work out here.

  • He's just sampled the whole damn song. And this Sexsmith guy is nothing compared to Chris Martin.

  • ron SEXsmith LOOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOOOOOLOLOLOLOLOLO

  • It's "gold in them hills' Because that is the old saying. Its like a cliche, a hackneyed phrase.

  • What a lovely song. Haunting voice.

  • Gran convinacion, Chris eres lo maximo

  • Chris y Ron tienes voces parecidas, gran combinacion :D

  • why do they say "gold in THEM hills" and not "gold in the hills"? Why do they say THEM? Isn't it wrong?

  • One of my teachers once said, that poems don't have to completly correct, so maybe it's 'them hills' because it's sounds better or it's easier to sing :P

  • @guisauco93 just shut up man

  • @guisauco93 colloquial usage. It's fine in this context.

  • such an inspiring lyrics & music.

  • I luv it when b-sides have musicvideos

  • Two wonderful distinctive singers singing a great song by a great songwriter

  • amo esta cancion!!!

  • one question...who is this ron?

  • I can't help it but Chris is a much better singer.

  • @crusadersoldier I don't think its a competition. Good art is about communication to the soul; wonderful art moves one's soul for a lifetime by its honesty.

  • jajajajajaa......es igualito a TOM CHAPLINNN!!!!!...jajajajajaaja.

  • Comment removed

  • @1spiralling

you say he looks like tom chaplin? ahahah well this guy's too fat.

  • it really gets good at 1:34 :) I <3 chris martin and COLDPLAY!!!!!

  • What a beautiful song...very inspiring

  • You are awesome love this so much

  • I'd love to see a duet sung by Ron Sexsmith and Tom Chaplin.. I think they'll fit perfectly!! : )

  • this song is boring

  • @sabianboy11

    agree :D

  • That Ron guy does pretty well. Obviously Chris is better but hes pretty solid. Must be like acting with Daniel Day Lewis, you might give the performance of your life but hes always a step ahead!

  • Comment removed

  • Ron's voice is an acquired voice as it's highly unique and stylized. I think it's like Marmite - either hate or love. Paul McCartney like his voice.

  • Chris makes it sound a lot let depressive

  • Easy to sing hard to write!

  • cris singing better

  • Hmmm i prefer the original i think but this is still good :)

  • pain is sometimes unavoidable when things are changing.

  • on the contrary actually, ron's imperfect voice is a perfect fit to this tune. it hasnt the refinement that can hide a certain pretense, and that enables it to catch you off guard and really let you in.

  • He sounded really different in Whatever It Takes with Michael Buble, tho. He sounded more sure of himself there. This song he sounded less confident...less sure. But Gold In Them Hills is really sticking in my mind, I catch myself humming it every now & then. I guess you are right about that imperfect tone letting me in. :)

  • I think Ron is a wonderful songwriter. I stumbled on his name from Michael Buble's new CD and absolutely loved the song he & Michael Buble duetted (Whatever It Takes).

Ron's got this writing gift, but his voice isn't very strong. This song needed a distinct voice to carry it. Chris Martin supplied that voice and made it unique.

I wish Ron's stuff is more available in my location. It's good stuff!

  • Sweeet song

  • AMAZING SONG. Would've been slightly less amazing without that touch of Chris Martin. Everything he touches turns to gold..

  • @leviathaon

    ...in them hills.

  • @leviathaon lol but its still a good song and rons not that bad

  • @leviathaon I agree

  • Ron's my hero. Totally underrated musician....

  • Totally agree!

Retriever is one of my favourite albums of all time.

  • @23cz

    so true.

  • Elton John recognized Ron Sexsmith's talent during an interview w/ Elvis Costello on his 'Spectacles' series. Apparently he's one of EJ's favorite songwriters. Bottom line is that video is making people with little talent stars simply because they look good on video.

  • featured in queer as folk tv series

  • is this ron sexsmith's song or coldplay's? it's absolutely gorgeous. chris martin's voice is to DIE for. AMAZING.

  • It's written by and originally sung by Ron Sexsmith.

  • chris martin is absolutly phenominal!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish more people knew this song, absolutely amazing

  • maybe your right personally i like Chris Martin more, because he doesnt have this accent. how Ron says ´´ Start´´ is just terrible for my opinion, Chris´s voice is clearer. And for the record Coldplay has sold more records. For as far as i know ofcourse

  • Ron has a superb style of singing. Ironically, Chris seems to be copying Ron's style (-at least, unconsciously) on his verse. They both sound great to me, and harmonise very well.

  • By superb do you mean that he uses his throat too much and goes slightly off key from time to time?

  • What I like, is how Ron communicates with his singing- the 'looseness' seems to show vulnerability, and makes it sound authentic/genuine- compared to some bland but accurate chart/pop vocalists. Of course some people simply won't like him- that's OK, this is art, we all have our own preferences, and there is no definite right and wrong. (Use of throat for example, is personal choice, and pitching can be flexible, eg-vibrato, glissando, microtones, etc)

  • Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young: None of those guys ever made a single contribution to modern music because they didn't have traditionally strong voices, either.

  • 100% agree!

  • I've been bobbing my head for the whole of the song. One singer to me isn't better than the other. It's good just the way it is.

  • I would love this song so much more if Chris sang the whole thing!

Every thing about Chris is beautiful such as his voice, look, personality!

  • I think it's a beautiful song, and Ron is great for having written it, but Chris has such an amazing voice that I wish he had sung the whole thing.

  • this boy is singing bad...he should not sing with chris martin, makes a bad singer of him

  • Camera makes Chris's eyes seem further away from each other so it's kinda funny. ;} Ron looks like Brian Astin as Sam... :P

  • I hate to say it , (not really) but even though ron wrote the song , Chris owns it completely.

  • Chris sounds so much better than Ron :)

  • Gwyneth is lucky!!! Chris should sing the whole song he is great

  • i cant believe gwen gets to wake up to this 2:07 every morning

    he looks like an angel

  • Yep, an angelic face. I agree 10000000%

  • Comment removed

  • At 2:10 doesn't Chris have the most beautiful eyes

  • R0n s0unds s0 ....... bad.

    Chris c0mpletely 0wns this s0ng.

    It w0uld be a much better s0ng with0ut R0n.

  • It wouldn't even exist without Ron. He wrote it.

  • It wouldn't exist if no one had produced it or played the instruments either... so whats your point?

  • My point is he wrote the song. I would assume that is a pretty important contribution to the song, no? There's another version of the song without Chris. I would have to say Ron's contribution outweighs that of Chris's, but that's just me. For the record, Chris Martin is a huge Ron Sexsmith fan.

  • I love both singers, but their voices don't really mesh. Ron's very laid back and sings very loose. Chris is dead on with tone and timing. It makes their harmonizing a bit rough. I still like the song and have got a lot of miles out of it. I just find myself singing ron's part more like chris would. lol.

  • You know... I love this song but why, in the name of God those couples have to be so fucking skinny?!

  • theyre fine what are you talking about

  • I think the're too skinny. It's weird and not healthy.

but who cares? the song's beautiful.

  • they look fine to me...

and yeah, i love this song

  • is that supposed to be a joke? The first guy sucks so badly at singing but cris owns

  • Chirs makes this song wonderful.... <33

  • the singer is chris martin you dork

  • eh...

  • I like it!

  • GO CHRIS

  • this sounds sooo coldplay , Chris really put much work in it

  • Isn't that woman Dr. Cameron from House?

    She looks like it =D

  • Ron Sexsmith is a GENIUS...and a very nice man indeed...

  • chris martin makes this song

  • so true :>

  • i dont like it so much, its definitely not chris martin's style but it was ok

  • I love! <3

  • Is that the singer from Keane with Chris Martin?

  • No, his name is Ron Sexsmith. He is a canadian singer/songwriter. I performed with him 3 times in high school! :)

  • Best song I heard for a long long time! Wow!

  • I love the chris' voice. That's true, he's so cute.

  • Chris is Sexxxxxy !!

    (L)

  • This song would be better if Chris Martin sung all by himself without that miserable bugger! :) Keep the video the same just get rid of old misery guts!!

  • that "miserable bugger" wrote the song, Ron Sexsmith is an incredible musician and should be given more credit!

  • Seriously, just shut up. Not everyone knows which song is written by who, so why would go off on one at someone for having an opinion that was perhaps a little unfounded. But he wasn't necessarily saying that it wasn't written by him, he just commented on the fact that it is not his usual style. So just grow up.

  • CHRIS MARTIN <333

    Chris is SOOOOOOOO hot!

  • Can anybody tell me the name of the woman in this video? I know her, shes in movies.

  • what a beautiful song

  • im agree with you

  • omg theres no comparison, chris is hot hot hot,the other guy looks a miserable bugger lol

  • Fel a fejjel Balázs - úgyis levágják ;)...Ám: "is gold in them hill".

  • he looks like the singer of keane =)

  • Anyone else notice how unsuccessful ron sexsmith is?

  • THE BEST PART OF THIS SONG IS AT 3:39

  • The genius, the talent, the voice of the incredible Ron Sexsmith

  • great song!

  • The genius, the talent, the voice of the incredible chris Martin. COLDPLAY A VITA!!!

  • i like this

  • Sounds a little bit john lennon to me and look how things turned out for him.deaded as fuck

  • I've had this song on my ipod for a little while but never really listened to it before today... It's a very simple but pretty little song.

  • I prefer the other version of this song by Ron Sexsmith.

  • sounds like something from a toiletpaper commercial :P very fluffy and happy

but respect to Ron for making great music and letting Coldplay play with him.

  • I love Chris Martin(i)!

    Feeeel Gooood... xx
