@ForerunnerLuke First of all Nintendo isn't going downhill, but I'll admit wii isn't the best platform. The wii received a vast amount of sales before the homebrew program for wii was released. Explain to me the reason why you assume that Nintendo fans are to blame for Nintendo's stockmarket problems. If anything it's the titles they offer that're mostly for "child" entertainment and the people that are wrapped around the advance hardware of the following rival platforms.

@ForerunnerLuke People dislike the wii for its outdated hardware and the titles for it. In my opinion the wii is rather entertaining. I never use it as a family console, nor do I play the kiddish titles. I play first-person-shooters, mmorpgs, and yes I have over 12,000 roms on my "modded" wii. Honestly, I recommend it, but I'm assuming you only care for the graphical appearances of a game and the platform's hardware.

@xKOOPA900 can you put the sd card into the computer ? if you dont have an sd card slot then get an sd card reader... once you are able to have your computer read your sd card then download the hackmii and drag the private folder and the boot.elf to the sd card disk and then put it in your wii and follow the on screen instructions

@Juijitsu9 Yes it works. You do need an SD card that is 2GB or less (that is recognized by your Wii) in order to install the Homebrew Channel, but once it is installed you can use SDHC (more than 2GB) cards (although not all of them are compatible; you can still try and find out).

@Juijitsu9 Yes, the exploit itself only supports SD cards up to 2GB so even though the System Menu can read it and launch the exploit, the exploit can't load anything if the SD card doesn't work.

It's probably safer to connect a Linux computer to your TV. Then link controller pads to it. But that might be a little more complex to people who have never touched Linux (Can also use Windows or Mac, but whats the fun in that?). Just know that before you hack your Wii there are other options you should review. But do whatever works for you best.

Plus homebrew is stupid. You always enjoy games better and play them more when you buy it. Modding your Wii (with homebrew or other stuff) just makes you enjoy games less. Why kill your gaming fun? All the people I know that modded their Wii used it for 1 month then quit. I still use it after 2 years. no mod.
