@noelist . Thanks Leon, the sound was magic approaching the summit at Shap until the steam noise kicked in . Glad you enjoyed the shot at Aisgill . Steve
shame about the whistle getting blotted out at Garstang, sounded fine approaching shap summit, and a lovely pan through Ais Gill from up there almost on mallerstang common, brilliant, Thanks. Leon.
@molzips . Thanks John , Aisgill was good but I cant get over how fast the Scot did the climb hence I think she was being helped a touch otherwise she was pulling 12 plus a can which would be fair old load . Steve
I'm very glad that 46115 was able to make this trip. But, I guess that my impression is the wrong impression. I thought she was back in shape. If I'm wrong oh well.
@Mikelandscaper . Thanks Mike , I think she had a bad steam leak from somewhere but if it was that bad the steam would have been taken off at Carlisle you would think hence she carried on . Regards Steve
I'm glad it was less than I thought. It shall be great when she gets back into the groove like this past Spring. It's going to happen. In the meantime Lizzie has a few runs yet and the 2 Jubillees shall be with us again soon. May you upload a 5690 clip when you get the chance.
Hi guys, so it was a steam leak? I got the impression 46115 was just left on for show, at Greenholme it was making black smoke and there was no discernible exhaust beat. The diesel seemed to be working hard though. Anyone wants to befriend me on Facebook I've a few pics on there, my name is Gareth Nolan
@gaffzilla . Thanks Graham , the 3 cylinder sound was superb before she rounded the corner near Shap summit until the steam leak took over that is .The 47 was pushing hard but I have been told that was the case to make up for a lot of the lost time. Steve
@robmasterman . Cheers Bob , the Scot had a leak from somewhere but was still a joy to film. Lets hope she sounds a tad better on the Hadrian this Sat . Regards Steve
@stuvids . Thanks Stu , the steam leak sound was very loud and masked the long whistles at Garstang sadly. The Aisgill shot was good but the wind was taking the sound away from me until the Scot got a lot nearer . Regards Steve
@locomotive67 .Thanks Dave, after not pressing record the last time 46115 was over Shap I just had to try again and make sure I had pressed the correct button. Steve
complete disdater yesterday, saw it at oubeck and scout green ands shots not cone out, carlisle station it had left ,so off to upperby wher the water tanker was waiting.Guess what the points had stuck so it could not be turned on the normal triangle, water tanker left to go to london road to fill the scot.We could not get on there as all locked up.How did they turn the scot eventually
Really superb footage of a very memorable day. CLIC Sargent is a great cause, this was truly inspirational day and I too feel very proud to have been involved with this event
@Rocketboy1950 Have you ever tried firing a Scot with an equivalent load of 15 coaches up The Long Drag? That rate of firing is proportional to the load and speed. 46115 was doing 49mph at the top which required constant firing to achieve (19 minutes of constant firing from leaving Appleby). On the Blue Ribbon runs of the 80/90's this was done using two very good experienced ex-BR firemen - yesterday's was achieved single handed by a 20 yr old (Danny Davin - my son who I am extremely proud of!)
@tonydavin . Hi Tony , you are rightly very proud of your son Danny as that is some feet and he must be congratulated for a wonderful effort and I bet he was sweating a fair bit . Regards Steve
@tonydavin I can appreciate your touchy feely sensitivity on the issue but as an engineman of 40+ years I can recall when that amount of black smoke got you a "please explain". That aside the lad obviously was doing a good job and my comment was in no way intended to be to his detriment.
@Rocketboy1950 Far from it! An engineman with 40+ yrs experience should know how hard that Scot was being worked to take 15 bogies up the long drag and be doing 49 at the top. The are videos of him on 5690, 44932, 45231 & 48151 firing with long pauses between each 3 shovels of coal. He doesn't waste coal and he certainly doesn't make extra work for himself!!
@TheGolfverde . Thanks for the kind words . The charity has made a load of money from what I can tell so a big well done to all involved . Regards Steve
Cracking shots at great locations, Steve. That's a fantastic vantage point you had at Aisgill. You must have better legs than me! Thanks for sharing - Frank.
Well, it was certainly doing the business at Shap and Ais Gill, (you can hear where the 47 puts a burst of power on at 4:24, so it was idling when it went past).
@AndreiTupolev . Thanks Andrei , the Scot was shifting in all three clips but I think the 47 was doing a fair but at Shap possibly to try and make up some time. Regards Steve
It was certainly the strangest sound I've heard off a steam engine. I saw it at Woodhouse and got the impression that the 47 was doing a lot of the work
@dragon7552 . Thanks Idris, the 47 was pushing I reckon and it was a strange sound as it killed the whistle noise at Garstang. You were just in front of me at the Galgate roundabout but I lost you in the traffic. Steve
@howarth004 . Thanks David, spoilt for choice location wise but I could not make up my mind for the first shot as the sun was right in my face shot wise. Steve
@981smithy . Thanks Phil , the Scot was motoring at Garstang and the track has a dip so things move about a touch. Aisgill was amazing as I thought the 47 was pushing but I dont think it was . Regards Steve
@acw71000 . Thanks Austin, I arrived at Shap and there was one chap with a still camera so I asked him if I would be in his shot if I set up on the wall and I got the thumbs up but the other guys who arrived later may not have thought the same but hey I was there first. The Scot did sound odd but was shifting along nicely and the clag was unexpected at Aisgill but very welcome . Regards Steve
@Stephengthompson apparently 46115 was in throttle-back mode because of the fire risk due to the warm weather. Gareth :)

Excellent video Steve! Do like the final clip at Ais Gill. A shot I'll have to try next year.
The Scot was sounding very strange with the steam noise. Sounding like a pipe not connected properly or a valve stuck open. No doubt I'll found out.
Thanks for Sharing the video!!
