  • There is no applause for the Haarlem improvisation competition. I know from hearing it in 1982 and performing in it in 1988 and 2000.

  • Anton and Erna Heiller - Soler Concerto for Two Keyboards, 1964

    thanks and regards

  • Did Anton ever play Reger?

Sorry that he died young. Diabetes or complications thereof?

This is a little boring. Perhaps I don't get it.

Thank you, Snail, for sharing this and also for your good information.

  • Did Heiller play Reger?!! There's amazing recordings from the Linz Marcussen of AH playing 135b and Wachet auf! amongst others. Not reissued, i think, but I have [snitched!!] Wachet auf! from the World Record Club vinyl series..

  • Would love to hear Anton Heiller's performances, especially of Wachet Auf and 135b, my favorites.

I practice my improvisations well before performance.

My girlfriend and I heard Anton on the Cassavant Organ at Colorado State University and I believe also on its sister "French" organ at a nearby church, St. Lukes? in Fort Collins, Colorado.

  • I had the great fortune to hear Anton Heiller play at Old West in Boston as well as at Appleton chapel at Harvard, on the new, at the time, Fisk organ there. Many have called him the reincarnation of Bach and his Bach performances are effortless and mesmerizing. This is the first time I have heard him improvise and I am quite impressed. Despite his disdain for the Romantic French literature, his improvisation definitely is based in that idiom. Does anyone know of any live video of him playing?

  • mmmmmmmmmmm.....interesting.....a solid improvisation but not really my cup of tea.

  • hey I have the same last name as him maybe were related, not many heillers around

  • This isn't the Adema organ but the Müller organ. The Adema organ is in the St-Bavokathedraal.

  • Ooops you are quite right :-O Yes, got my Bavos mixed up, thanks for spotting the error, I shall edit accordingly.

  • Thank you for this beautiful music.

  • I remember the first time I ever heard the Haarlem organ -- E.Power Biggs, back in the mid-60's, I think, put out an LP of Mozart works. I was staggered by the beauty of this instrument, both aurally & visually. This comes close to being a perfect instrument in a perfect setting.
