i started on pc using reason version 1 after reason 3.5 moved to mac and got into logic. got into ableton here and there from the first version to the 4th version while i was using reason but only had cracked versions that crashed. i finally went out and bought live 8 and now it's all i use (with ni maschine) i haven't touched logic or reason since.

Hi,

I'm in the middle of making the transitions from analog recording to software digital recording and don't really know what software program would best fit my work flow. I produce music but also play live gigs. I saw videos on Cubase 5 and liked what it could do with vocals, Pro-tools has a big name (why I don't know) and now Ableton. All of these thing(videos) just confuse me making it harder for to make up my mind. Any suggestions would be great.

@Dsynthsounds The software choises make no difference in general, where as

Ableton Live is a totally different approach for production since it can be used as an instrument other than a tool, for live performances.

Just choose based on your priorities, if you need a performance tool, go with Live, if not, anything will do. No one is better than the other, its more of which program is comfortable for you. They all come with similar Instruments, FX, and features, as the basics are all the same.

Maschine is a plug in that he would play inside of live. The Maschine controller can be used as just a midi controller for suff other than the Maschine program itself, and because of the controllers lighted pads it makes a good alternative to the APC40.

maschine is only a vst/au plug and the hardware can be used for midi.
