ICI was a world class international company with hundreds of thousands of millions of great products the world over,useful services and a reputation second to none, and it was all killed to nothing by the sale to Akzo Nobel. ICI should still be with us as a subsidiary company of Akzo Nobel with everything it stood for and all the products it made should never have been scrapped whatsoever.
ICI have only themselves to blame for their demise and sellout to Akzo Nobel-they got rid of a lot of good sound divisions and businesses over the years and slashed paypackets and pensions of it's loyal workers, cut costs, slashed R&D divisions, cut back backroom boys and office staff and gave it's CEOs and bosses nice big pensions and damn good payouts for their retirements and they walked away the winners and then they had the cheek to sell to Akzo Nobel and ICI is now history.
It's a shame, really. No one thinks of the people that would be hurt most by plant closures and lost jobs, rather they worry about the bigwig assholes that run the companies into the ground. It's like that everywhere.

unexpected for me, and I thought that Cadbury's fall was horrible
England should worry since now, because the next one could be Unilever, Premier Foods, Wall's, Weetabix, Barclays, etc.
and Akzo Nobel is evil as devil, they could make ICI subsidiary without disappearing the company

Not worldclass anymore. Sold out to Azko Nobel which has led to mass redundancies and factory/chemical plant closures and badtimes.
