I admit that this film did not stick to the book as well as the older version but I think this version captured the drama and power of the book much better and there was more mood and atmospherer in this film than in the 1963 version particularly in Simons death scene. I actually think Jack is pretty hot in this film so thats another reason to prefer this version :)

the message of teh book was not about Jack being the representation of evil... the aim was always to proove that the evil was present in ALL the boys, and by extention, is present in ALL THE PEOPLE. Lets face it: if humans were indeed by nature kind then we wouldnt have laws, we wouldnt need them... People just LOVE to see other suffer or even theirselves being the ones causing it... It makes themn forget their own weaknesses, that are never few...

They didn't care to work as a team and bide by the rules in order to get saved. They went with Jack because they wanted to have fun and not listen to the rules. after simons death there is a storm which washes away both simon's body and a gust of wind causes the parachuter to be blown away too. so the boys never find out that there isnt a beast.
