Make a movie where Wash is only seen through flashbacks. You know make poor Zoe suffer more as she remembers the good times the bad times and the funny times with her dear departed hubby.

Washbacks. I for some reason see River taking over flying the ship. She watched Wash fly for nearly 8 months. and River is super smart. She'd have learned a few things that wouls spark to Zoe 'Wash'.

I thought/think Zoe flashbacks having flashbacks would be good too. River hanging 'round the cockpit and picking up his flying skill would be neat. Other characters could have flashbacks also.

Alan's funny. Summer's hot. Mabye her parents intended that pun.

That'd be neat. Joss wouldn't go for it though b/c the characters would be separate:it'd be 7 shows in 1 unless he retconned so characters brushed by each other earlier, had new in-between supporting characters who traveled between the main characters, or 'verse-wide events (meteor storm at every location). It'd be neat to find out what atrocity Book was a part of that he quite the alliance and sought God for atonement/cleansing.

Wash and Alan = hilarious and wonderful. Seeing and hearing Alan correct the description of Wash (and Zoe) = priceless humor.  Wash is my favorite one as well, I think his first scene in the pilot episode "Serenity" (the dinosaurs as his puppets) established that firmly.
