  • I rememeber seeing this live on TV, when I was 14 and being literally mesmerized by this wonderful performance...

They obviously won the gold in everyone's heart but the judges...

  • Best thing out of britain, maybe along with shortbread. And i do agree, they should have won the gold

  • Breathtaking and technically brillant - I wish they would have won but I believe the judges found any excuse to deny them the dream ending to their comeback story. I am so glad they are back on our screens in 'dancing on ice' - I love watching them skate - perfection in unison!

  • WHAT were the judges thinking in this particular Olympics not to have awarded Torvill & Dean the gold? As a matter of fact, I think this was the worst judged Olympics in all 4 disciplines that I've ever seen in my life.

  • @bindi06 I know, I can't believe the travesty of the judging for this, their connection and artistry is amazing and I never tire of watching them.

  • Anyone know where I can find the piece that they skated to? :)

  • they are just breathtaking amazingly great skaters!! I have honestly never seen better ice skaters than them. They share such an unbelievable chemistry on and of the ice. Just look at Chris gazing at Jayne before they go onto the ice. That is such a symbol of their amazing connection and bond and the trust they have in each other. They are just incredible. 100% in sync with each other.

  • like 2 swans gliding over a lake they should of won gold!!

i wish in real life things were so romantic!!!

a full house of 6 from me

  • Thought so at the time and nothing has changed for me since. The biggest robbery in Olympic history. Was Don King anywhere near the judges??

  • @sleeplessinsale Thanks for reminding me--I felt SICK about that terrible injustice, the whole British nation did too. A clear piece of Olympic political skulduggery, and corruption. Still with us today, along with the World football association's disgraceful behaviour. As usual, when large amounts of money are involved --corruption is close at hand.

  • It's the chemistry between them that made them so great. Just look at how Chirs looks at Jane before they go on the ice :') <3

  • @MeganXXnageM I remember watching a documentary on them years ago...Chris used to line up their skate guards with absolute precision before each routine, symbolizing their connection when on the ice. You can see that same intensity in his gaze.

  • Best part of this performance? Chris looking at Jayne at the start. :)

  • Bolero was so sensual and elegant! But, the Rhumba was so erotic! Absolutely divine! Jayne and Chris, thank you for the beauty you create, project, and live by!

  • @MrDDurst They are the greatest and most famous in the WORLD at what they do. It takes dedication, passion and serious talent to do what they've done. What are YOU the best in the world at? You clearly don't like skating, so, why are you even watching this? Do us all a favour and save us the trouble of having to notice your pathetic trolling. Heh, I'm tempted to ask people to thumbs up this comment but I don't think I need to.

  • I never tire of watching this performance!

  • love the loving stare chris gives jayne at the beginning. so sweet! <3

  • Supperb, outstanding intimasy and skills!

    xx

  • Still after 27 years, I haven't seen a better OD in my life. Breathtakingly perfect, sexy and unforgettable ( the 2 can come a bit closer to this is Anissina-Peizerat and Virtrue-Moir Flamencos in the Olympic 2002 and 2010, but those are only "closed to", not "up to" this miracle.)

  • @BigdealXXIII TOTALLY agree with you - the finest OD of all time, along with their OSP Paso Doble. Also totally agree about Virtue and Moir and Anissina and Peizerat's ODs too... despite the new rules Virtue and Moir have brought "dance" back to ice dance.... but Torvill and Dean... just WOW!!

  • I remember seeing this back in 1994 when I was a teenager and being absolutely open-mouthed in front of such a perfect display of awesomeness and emotion ...

16 years later I'm happy to see that it's the same feeling , to use the commentator's words , a masterpiece ...

  • I can't believe he is not gay. He is so gorgeous...

  • @2010watchmenow *laughs* That's the best comment I've seen in AGES. Hilarious!! Seriously hilarious!!

  • @2010watchmenow are you being serious?????? Maybe you should go and look up who is ACTUALLY the greatest ice dance team in history.....oh wait, you must have already done that to get to this vid!!

  • @2010watchmenow oksana grshuk evgeny platov LMAO you made those stupid names up.. Yea Yea Yea Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are unbeatable thats why they have the gold medals duhhhh BRITISH CHAMPIONS............. GB

  • I hate the Rumba but that was amazing.

  • Sexy number. I love everything they do. T&D got screwed at the Olympics.

  • 6.0!

  • They show what dancing is all about; she surrenders to her partner and he looks at her like he can't believe this beautiful creature is really in his arms.

  • I just looooooove them all my life........

  • fantastic

  • Lascivious, lascivious. Simply AMAZING. The best.

  • they were robbed on this olympics

  • Another masterpiece by Torvill & Dean. Amazing!

  • @charlx16

They were too full of themselves. That LP was so dumb. And you my friend, can EAT ME!!

  • Wow!

  • Sex on ice... seriously, they proved that you could be sexy as hell without being tacky or garish. Totally hot and right on!

  • They would have deserved all 6.0 marks

    simply wonderful

  • That look between them when they are waiting to stay is electric, no words just talking through eye contact.

  • @emmjo720 I love that look, the eye contact, the connection, the wry smile, and then the most electrifying rhumba.

@pobgill I have to disagree. The rules were changed v suddenly when it was known T&D were coming back so they COULDN'T do anything "pioneering". That's why when you look at all 1994 FDs they're all v traditional. Much as I admire Grichuk & Platov 1994 results were a BIG stich up. They were warned they'd only come 4th, but they were SO good there was no way they could be ignored

  • This was beautiful

  • so effortless gorgeous! x

  • i came here to remember and be heartbroken all over again. No one dances from inside the music the way they do, as if their line is supported by a single shared beating heart. My younger friends mock ice dancing & i think you just dont understand...

  • They recreated this sport. Amazing!

  • ethrush....

Not true. Torvill and Dean tore up the old traditional book in the 80's, but their new pioneering style was becoming a bit passe by Lillehammer.

Their return to older, more traditional style was what the judges reacted to, in giving them underrated scores.

  • They only won the bronze because there was a reaction against their innovation, and the judges wanted a return to the traditional. They were penalized for a supposedly "illegal" lift.

  • So right! And good for you for saying! The "illegal" lift was at the end...over his shoulder! They are MASTERS !! Their footwork is beyond belief!!!! Legends and good for them!!! forever a fan of theirs!!!

  • That "illegal" lift still pisses me off. The judges in 94 knew who they wanted to win. The gold medal winners that year spent almost a minute apart in the FD and recieved no penalty for it.

  • The judges always know who the winners are every Olympics, if you ask me. I am SICK to death of the judges, and I don't believe this 'new' judging system had mad any difference at all.

  • I would like to know the Title of this music / Rhumba. Anyone?

  • Historia de un amor - The story of a love (I had) It is commonly translated from Spanish as: A love story, and it was written by Carlos Eleta Almaran.

  • To those asking how they placed: They won this portion of the competition but in the end only won the bronze medal.

  • They say speed kills. In figure skating a lack of speed is what (according to the judges) kills. Total bullcrap as far as I'm concerned this was the best OD by far.

  • I would think that doing intricate skills side by side at a slower speed would be more challenging because there is no room for error. The judges could see every wobble.

  • They were so beautiful together, unsurpassed! I've been watching the Vancouver Olympics, and just had to find T&D to watch on youtube. And I can't believe they did not win in this competition. Age discrimination?

  • It totally sucked that they got 3rd place. What were the judges thinking?!

  • As others have stated, they don't get any better than Torvill and Dean. Absolute perfection. There is no comparison between what they did and ice dancers today. You can tell the endless practice and perfecting technique in every step.

  • i was so disappointed when they lost. so unfair

  • So, did they win?

  • Is there any body better?

Can't decide which is better -- this or Bolero.

I wish we had ice dancers anywhere near this now.... Yawn, indeed!

  • They should have won the gold. Stupid judges.

  • who won then and wat place did they come? those were really gd marks 2 me...

  • Let's get Torvill and Dean back in the next winter olymics!!! They'd still win!!

  • @realmissyblues yea i totally agree they could show these young skaters a thing or two if they came back they would still win hands down because there is no one in the world better than torvill and dea n and there never will be i love u jayne and chris xxx

  • молодцы, гениально танцуют

  • Perfection! If today's skaters could come anywhere near as close as these two, I wouldn't have been falling asleep last night while watching the ice-dancing!

  • Wonderful performance!

  • Comment removed

  • Simply brilliant!

  • Was this the original dance they did in the olympics?

  • Yes it was and I believe that they won that portion of the event. They received several perfect marks for their performance and deservably so.

  • mit Abstand der bester Rumba, den ich je gesehen habe

  • I loved this routine!

if anyone's interested i've linked it to an earlier exhibition piece they did to the same music in 1982

  • Anybody have the links to the dances that beat them?

  • Its a liberty they did not win gold.Brilliant

  • Weren't they going to make this into a compulsory dance? What happened?

  • It is a compulsory dance, in the US it is at the international level, it just looks nothing like this rhumba. It is a quick sequence of steps with one large choctaw.

  • Perfection!

  • This kind of dance is rhumba, a brazilian type of dance! Two great ice dancers!

  • Jane and Chris make it look effortless and you know it's not. Another brilliant performance. *10*

  • The best ever. They should have two gold medals instead of one. They were straight robbed, but they weren't the only ones at that Olympics-Elvis Stojko should have won too.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song they danced to?

  • It's a mexican song called "Historia de un amor", Love story.

  • Beauty. I love the look on Dean's face after the presentation score. He's like "what - not all 6's? Oh well, this'll do."

  • Perfection!

  • The 1 thing that gets me hotter than hot is seeing a tall good looking man who really knows how to dance. & Christopher Dean fits the bill. T&D 4EVER!!!!!!!

  • @robynsegg oh yes i totally agree to be honest he gets better looking as he gets older just so sexy !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @charlx16: LOL! Agreed!

  • It's dances like these that kept me thinking for years they were a married couple! lol

  • They finished down in 3rd place in the end, beaten by 2 russian couples which sent them back into retirment.

  • They did not 'retire' after the 1994 Olympics, they went back to professional touring, performing and competition. They retired in 1998. (And they weren't 'beaten', they were robbed.)

  • Totally agree, they were robbed plain and simple. Then we had to endure Pasha Grishuk showing her you know what to the judges and sleeping with all the married men for years, LMAO!

  • beautiful.

  • They have incredible sincerity of emotion and presence of ice. Wonderful creativity and awareness of each other. Never tire of watching them.

  • what place did they come ??

  • 1st in this dance.

  • Thanks You-Tube, I'd been wanting to see the video of this English pair dancers for a longtime and finally, I did, and in the comfort of my own home too.

  • You may not know this but they today work on Dancing On Ice. This wasn't their gold performance check out thier 1984 performance which they won gold for. This is torville and dean skating around Leona Lewis (1:00 on)

    watch?v=-lIS93sOZfw.

  • harika/magnificent

they should have gotten 6.0 from all the judges

  • can anyone recommend any of their other dances that are quite passionate/sexual? I think they do those ones really well. x x x

  • BOLERO

    TANGO

  • For emotional/passionate/sensual and even comedy try:

    Torvill and Dean:

    Song Of India

    Oscar Tango

    Stormy Weather

    Encounter

    Revolution/Imagine

    Diablo Tango - Comedy

You will not be disappointed. Alot of these were performed in their professional championship days. Alot of people think they disappeared after the '84 Olympics, and forget that they went professional and performed all over the world especially in the US.

  • @OPL73 yes i have most of their dvds and books and i have watched all of them and several more true genious the dances are devine diablo tango is hillariuos

  • that was pretty hot actually.

  • You mean classy

  • Ritzygal are the biggest whore here.

This dance is wonderful !!! I love Jane and Chris.

  • By the way ritzygal is Usova making bad comments about Jane and Chris and Oksana and Evgeny.

    This rumba amazing.

  • She is an englishwoman

  • @frecklesislegend they are both english they were both born and raised in nottingham chris was raised just outside in a mining town called calverton they met at the ice rink

  • @ritzygal how dare u jayne and chris are the best ice dancers ever and yes she does skate like she is english BECAUSE SHE IS and so is he dont bad mouth jayne and chris ever!!!!!!! its disrespectful and there are millions more TnD fans who will agree with me

  • got to be the best

  • They are amazing. I love watching them skate, the make it look so effortless. That and Christopher Dean is gorgeous, even now.

  • This has everything that a Rhumba should have. It has passion, it has fluidity, it hastechnical brilliance, it has it all. Dancers from the skating world now could learn lessons from this.

  • These r amazing Skaters

i would do anything 2 be able 2 skate liek them but sadley i cant go on the ice with out falling over

  • These 2 masters should have won Gold here. I was so dissapointed when they didnt.

  • yes it was a bit if a fix that they didn't I think

  • and to think,

some people cant even stand on ice without falling over

    this is amazing

  • This is all that is left of 1994 Olympics? 'Face the Music", in all its magic, is gone...

  • Uwielbiam nie polskie tańce na lodzie...

    One są takie inne :)

  • Can someone out there PLEASE tell me the name of this song, and if possible the artist? Mama's gotta have this song !!!! THANKS!!

  • histoire l'histoire de l'amour.....

  • Historia de un Amor is a song written by Panamanian songwriter Carlos Eleta Almaran. It was written after the death of his brother's wife. It is also in the soundtrack of a 1956 Mexican movie of the same name. . It may be interpreted that love is a story for a woman but it's just an episode for a man. It was sung or played by many artists like Julio Iglesias, Nana Mouskouri, Perez Prado, Laura Fygi, Iva Zanicchi, Eydie Gormé & Trio Los Panchos, Pedro Infante, Dalida, Ana Gabriel, Luis Miguel

  • Hi the name of the song is historia de un amor and there is quite a few latin american singers with the version of the song but i think one of the bests is from the mexican singer Luis Miguel is a lovely and soft bolero :)

  • No one will remember all the other couples they competed against, but Torvill & Dean will always be known for perfection on ice. Mesmerizing!!!

  • T&D certainly set the ice sizzling here. Viewers might like to compare this version to the exhibition piece they did to the same music in 1982 - see my channel.

  • hypnotizing. awesome

  • I'm sure they did a routine to Don't speak by no doubt but I can't remember when or where. Any body know?

  • perhaps at the skating with the stars show?

  • All i can say is, at least this part of the competition was not marked down. But to be honnest, this OD is miles above the two Russian couples FD, let alone their actual OD.

  • iki kelimem var harika ve buyuleyici.

  • excuse me,, what is the song title for this choreography?? can anyone tell me please... thanks anyway..

  • Historia de un amor :)

  • ok thanks a lot... ^^

  • I LOVE this one! It kills me how ROBBED they were!!!

  • this dance is just gorgeous......its so sesual! they are without a doubt the best ice dancers ever and the deserved to ein gold in 94!

  • I usually watch the woman in ice dance -- partly because of the more flamboyant costume, but mainly because the woman is usually the better skarer. With no disrespect to Jayne, I always watch Christopher in this pairing. He is beautiful and graceful.

  • Awsome, quite literally. Surely the best OD ever, although the blues of Usova&Zhulin (Summertime) and Libertango of Grischuk&Platov runs it very close. But nobody marked it down, they were justly first on the OD. With all my love to T&D, don't think I'd have them 1st on the FD. U&Z should've been 1st overall, and at least 4 judges had'em there.

  • I don't know how any judge with good conscience can mark down Torvill and Dean.

  • In reply to selesqueen, if T&D had been 3rd in the CDs, but 1st in the OD and the FD, they would've been 1st overall. (like they should've been).

I'm not sure I agree that T&D should've been 3rd in both the CDs. The Russians were strong, but T&D were better, IMO, on both dances, especially the Blues.

  • How they didn't win, ill never know.

  • Simply stunning. I still find it hard to beleive that they didn't get gold that year. They were simpley the best.

  • I was going to say something similar! Beautiful, one of my faves, too. :)

  • this is my absolute fave one of thier performances! i love the atmosphere between them during this performance! Very passionate!

  • No they didn't win the 1994 Olympics. They won the OD part of the competition, but only won a bronze medal overall. They were robbed of the gold medal by those stupid judges. Everyone would could see that they were technically and artisticaly the best except those idiotic judges!! Argh...makes me mad it does!

  • They deserved only 3rd in the CDs. The two Russian teams had the best CDs. However they deserved to win the OD and FD I think. If they had won the OD and FD but still been 3rd in the CDs what would the overall result have been.

  • dus any1 knw if they won th 1994 olympics?

  • stunning, no one will top that!!!

  • Torvill and dean are absolutely amazing!

Thanks 4 posting this, i luv this dance!

  • That was something else....one of their most stunning performances. They were in a class all of their own.

  • England has only a few men/women to be proud of. Christopher Dean & Jane Torvill belong to these personalities.

  • No-one will ever match these two IMO.

  • This is so beautiful, passionate, sexy! I can't watch it enough. The whole thing is gorgeous. (Just like Christopher Dean!) :-)

  • M'encanten, són genials. Semblen un sol cos. Una pasada!!!!

  • Just a magical, sensual performance was like they were in a separate(much higher level) competition of their own compared 2 their opponents.Pity political judging refused 2 acknowledge what we all saw & knew or reflect it in their 'marking'.Still baffles & riles me when I think about how they were robbed, when their superiority over their 'competition' was glaringly obvious 2 all with eyes n hearts except the people trusted 2 mark/judge them fairly apparently.Just so GD injust!End of rant, lol!xxx

  • it wasn't about who was the best skaters it was about the fact that 3 of the judges all came from countries which used to be in the USSR

  • Those judges gave them the highest marks by the way

  • nope the Belarus judge (white red white top to botom striped flag) put them second in this dance.

  • poetic.

    they are the same breath

    eccezionale

    6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0

  • Absolutely this is the sexiest piece of correography I've seen. I wish they had won... this was just magic!!

You gotta love youtube.. anything thing you can think of it's here on youtube. Thanks for posting that. I've been dying to see T&D perform this again since those Olympics.

  • Timeless!

  • I just like the beginning...that smile he gives her...aww

  • What's the name of the piece of music did anyone already say?

I adore this dance- arguably their most exciting, in my opinion! Well, i like 'missing' too!

  • History of Love or Histoire d'amore :) There is a version by Perez Prado, I'm not sure if this version is it though.

  • They actually won this segment of the competition. It was the Free they lost out in. :(

  • How this flawless dance was beaten by the very fake-looking entry by the event winners (one of the two Russian pairs that took silver and gold) is completely beyond me. It has variety, originality and class throughout, and never once looks tacky.

  • how awesome is this dance?

  • This is one of my favorite piece of music...and they just realized it on the ice in this marvelous dance. They are telling the history of love, so sensually...

  • the grace, the wit, the musicality...just amazing. amazing!

  • CAN'T GET NO BETTER THAN THAT
