I found this album at a record store a few days ago, and this song just made me feel so good. I can't explain it....it's the most beautiful song I've ever heard. It's so beautiful.
Hi, these items significantly functions well, I came across a far more refined version from it at roulettecash#org for nothing, and I made some considerable revenue.
Funny and true story. I saw Donovan in the late 80's. During a quiet moment I shouted out "Legend of a Girl Child Linda" at the exact same time a girl screamed out "Atlantis." He heard both of us, but I was closer and louder. I knew he wouldn't play it, but he did smile. I think he was glad someone remembered this song. I've always loved this song. It's very peaceful and hypnotic. This one, "Ferris Wheel," "Where is She" and "Writer in the Sun" are my faves.
@abombinreverse Well, you pretty much had to be around in the 60's to have clear memories of Donovan. Sadly, his beautiful music doesn't speak as well to subsequent generations as I wish it did. We'd be living in a much sweeter world if it did.
I was living in a commune in Berkely and Donovan was on the record player every day, so every note is etched in my soul.
goofy puff the magic dragon lyrics. whack mellow/romantic vibe. monotonously repeats the same 6 bars for almost 7minutes. forget nostalgia. not even massive quatities of weed could make this song listenable. except for the little clarinet break at 6:20, which kind of rocks.
@davidDURIN If you were around in the 60s and 70s you heard a lot of this kind of thing from stoned or tripped-out hippy types. There isn't any deep meaning; it’s just childish burble, and the tune is dull. The gimmicky melisma is nice a couple of times, but the whole thing gets monotonous. No, before anyone asks, I couldn't do better. I wouldn't want to do anything like this; was never in with the flower children. Basically, they were kids who were too lazy to think.
@hydfawr Hmm ... yes: but when people put stuff on YouTube they're inviting comment, aren't they? With all due respect ... ? ... to you too, of course.

I was driving to my grandparent's house up in northern wisconsin, I got deep into the woods, we could only pick up two radio stations, this song was on one the other was "Jolene" by dolly parton, needless to say we left it on this song we laughed our asses off as this is one of the worst songs ever written/ created. Every time we finally thought it was over, another shitty verse came on, we laughed our asses off good times. So thanks Donavan
@kozas0 NO. don't mess with perfection. That's why people don't cover Led Zeppelin or Eric Clapton or Donovan or The Beatles or The Rolling Stones... you just don't mess with perfection.
Twenty five years ago I inherited the "Sunshine Superman" LP issued on the famous Epic label with the bee yellow background. I heard this song and simply fell in love with it. Thank you for posting!
His gift for art that inclues children was never better realized...his greatest album, get the vinyl and get a quality play-back to hear this properly
Meant to add that this is one of Donovan's most beautiful song-poems - a magical fairytale that could be made into a very beautiful film - but only by Donovan himself, with perhaps a helper or two. It could work on so many different levels.
I first heard this song on the beach at West End II on Long Island in the summer of `67 as I was reading "The Hobbit". From that day forward I always associate the song with "The Trilogy". There is something so Tolkenesque about the melody and of course the lyrics. The whole package is both haunting and serene.
And I always thought there's some similarities with the subsequent novel "The Never Ending Story" by Michael Ende. The princess, the kids, a magic place, giant gulls, "There's sadness in the kingdom, make it go far away"..
That is so, so weird. I am reading The Never Ending Story for the first time right now, and reading it made me think of this particular song, which really spoke to me when I first heard it, and still does
its magic - try it with mescaline, i did!

At 15, I heard this album being played in a 'headshop' in Baltimore in 1966. It's still a stunning collection of songs.

What a great idea - Donovan should do music for The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy...perhaps with McCartney.

Donovan at the height of his flower power phase and his true heart - must be about his wife.
