This song is from the Civil War era. Marty Robbins does the best version of it that I have heard thus far, but they didn't have recording technology in 1861-65. I imagine those versions of this song were even more emotionally charged.

Marty could handle any type of song, He was an American Patriot, not too many celebrities stick their head up and say so any more, I loved Marty's music and respected him, I am a Canadian fan. I saw him in person in Toronto in the late 60's .
