I believe the rights to bear arms. But they should be licensed in a similar manner to owning a car. Registration, some basic proof of competency and safety skills, periodic renewals. Basic commons sense.

A certain degree of competency is required to be shown through the registration and licensing procedure. The same level should be required for handgun ownership. This way no one can argue against my rights to own the gun and operate it responsibly.

@a1j10o15 The only problem with that is that the laws are set up so that after a period of time of you buying a weapon though an FFL the government has to get rid of the record that you did that. The constitution is not set up to give you rights... it is set up to prohibit the government from infringing on god given rights that you already have. The founding fathers set things up this way because one of the very first things that England tried to do was disarm them.

@a1j10o15 Furthermore, you are mistaken about where the information goes... when you purchase a weapon, it is sent to your states Beaureau of Investigation for your background to be vetted... all federal and state agencies have access to the same information (to a certain point), so in fact, it does go to and though those people. With licensing comes the ability to track, with tracking comes the ability to disarm, with disarming comes the ability to manipulate at will.

And the point of my comment was not only should a safety test should be required, but that there should be uniform standard to the test similar to getting a license to drive a car. I am assuming you and I have both purchased handguns without filling out a safety test.

Paperwork does not go the FBI, state capital, police stations. Depends on the jurisdiction. Moron.

It's being done like that already. Here in California you must take and pass the Handgun Safety Course before you are able to purchase a handgun. If you fail the test, you are not able to purchase until you retake the test and pass it. We must also undergo a criminal background check. If you have a felony on your record, no gun for you. To obtain a Concealed Carry Permit, you must qualify with your handgun at the shooting range.

He's talking about the trigger, Single action means that pulling the trigger only releases the hammer when it's cocked back, so if the hammer is down pulling the trigger does nothing. Double action means that when you pull the trigger when the hammer is down it draws the hammer back and then releases it.

If the hammer is down, it rides on the firing pin. A little bump is all it takes for unpleasant 'accidents' induced by following the advice of stupid gun haters who have no idea what they are talking about.

1911s are safest when cocked. The hammer cannot fall without backstrap pressure. Other models have even more safeties.
