I fucking love that tune so much. What i find so amazing about that performance here, is the fact that Anthony partly screwed up the lyrics after the first chorus part. I've already seen some live performance of " Tell Me " and he fucked the lyrics up several times. We see...even the owner of the lyrics forgets his own words occasionally !!!

Yeah, in this context compared to his modulus and even his musicman that fender jazz bazz is going to sound like shit.

Note, I said in this context.

Obviously, the jazz bass is going to have more more subtle, percussive growl due to it's passive single coil pick-ups. While his other two basses have an really hot active humbuckers, so you get a really punchy, bright tone, which is what everybody expects to hear from Flea.

You're wrong. Flea has the same Aguilar preamp in ALL his basses. Even the 61' Jazz Bass. So you cannot really say it is a regular single-coil sound. It's not as beefy as a stingray, but it's colored, though.

But I can see how a modified pre-amp COULD make a difference in tone.

@druzi94 Pretty sure that's a Fender J... one of the best known basses ever... Flea plays Modulus basses mostly, but cracks out others occasionally, such as a Stingray and sweeeet Rickenbacker 4001.

this was waaaaay before it came out. I have heard this version once about 3 months before the album came out. they tried to keep it hidden because the sound quality wasn't what they wanted.. ;o)

No, you didn't here this version 3 months before it came out. This video happened April 21, 2006 and the album came out May 5 (Europe) and May 9 (USA). They did, however, play Desecration smile in 2004 and Tell me baby and 21st Century in a few 2005 shows.
