South Africa 2020, and Chicago 2024 Olympics (if they decide to bid) Rio is more violent, the police force is actually the entire SWAT, lack of international appeal, and no vision of normal people enjoying themselves it was just a bid video of the beach, and the Jesus statue and they won. Tokyo doesn't have that home feeling as in theres to much work and business and no sight of ppl enjoying themselves in the park or with family than in Chicago.

when you count new yorks metropolitan area.. which is included in the overall census of 22 million.. new york isnt only bigger then london.. its the largest city in the world.
Tokyo is the largest city in the world in terms of population, and Karachi is the largest city in terms of size. I am british and i seem to know that ... and i dont have bad teeth.

But i must say, New York is very nice, i also like London. Either candidate was eligible for the win, and they chose London.
Support has alot to do with getting the bid, there needs to be finanacial guareentee, cooperation from civic leaders, support from citizens of area that there may be construction and demolistion. Chicago has been a favorite for bringing the games back to america.. something new york was not when it bidded.
chicago got a 7.0 on its first evaulation, which provide the city to improve the bid before the final bid book is sent out. New yorks FINAL evauation got a 7.5. we will not know what chicago final score is unti sept 2.IOC officals were worried about the changes in the last minute of ny bid.. Chicago has full support from chicago natives such as Mayor Daley, Oprah Winfrey, President Obama, and Sec. of State Hilary Clinton. Chicago is alot safer, cleaner, less congested than new york.
Whatever. I really can't give more than a rat's ass about this to continue calling bullshit on whatever the typical Chicago 2016 internet fangirl has to say. So have fun fighting the good fight for Chicago on Youtubes comment section.
new york is a wonderful place but they didnt produce a good plan. a campaign to win the games isnt nesscesarily about how "grand" a city is, but about the plan and concept they will produce for the games. new york would have been better off doing whtat chicago is doing now... centering the games in the heart of the city and bringing the city as a whole into the project.
New York's plan - finances, transportation, accommodation, venues, security, athletes services, enviormental matters - was quite good. It just came in 4th place in the IOC's evaluation report because it was against Madrid, London and Paris - 3 European capitals with an infrastructure thats inheritably better suited for an Olympic Games.
If NY's plan was in the running for 2016 it would probably be substantially AHEAD of Chicagos, but behind the nearly flawless plans of Tokyo and Madrid.
um no, new yorks plans were hampered by poor support and the city changed plans during the bid. IOC also hated that alot of the venues were mostly in outside areas. Chicago has the most compact bid of the bidding cities, 85 percent of the athletes are within 10 mins of the compettion venues, all on the lake. It would not take a "outstanding" infrastructure to compete. and if you ever been to chciago you would know that our transport is extensive. and a whole lot excessible than new york.
Oh please - poor support isn't going to tangibly affect things like finances, transportation, accommodation, venues, security, athletes services, environmental matters, etc. NY's public support could have been better but it hardly "hampered" the bid. Continental rotation (nothing of NY's doing) and the stadum fiasco were bigger deals working agaisnt NY's bid. The West Side stadium plan should have never been conceived, and the back-up site was anchored by an already existing Olympic Park.
i am basing my information on the IOC's final evaluation of new yorks bid, it provided LITTLE financial guarntee as well. if it goes by continental rotation than RIO would win because south america never hosted. and continental rotation is not even "really" factored in, its just an idea to promote the games in different places. Chicago has most of its venues build, and have you seen chicagos olympic village... its WAY better than that shitty apt style thing ny was going to built.
Chicago's bid got a 7.0 last time it was officially evaluated. On technical merit, it ranked closer to Rio (6.5) than it did to Madrid (8.2) and Tokyo (8.4). NY did not lag that much behind Madrid, London, and Paris during the 2012 bid race.
Technical merit isnt everything, so I think Chicago will probably win 2016 considering things like continental rotation. But it is complete bullshit to say that Chicagos 2016 bid is better than New Yorks 2012 bid.
i cant claim to have a large knowledge of the economic world so ill just have to trust in what you say there but your suggestion that new york is culturally diverse and london isnt is quite arrogant. like i said before both are international citys taking in cultures from across the globe, legally or not england has its fair shair of migration and if you had ventured out of either the one borough you were in or stepped out of the landmarks you wouldnt be making the single minded comments you make
new york is a cultural center that attracts talented people from across the country and the world, it is a economical center nyse, nasdaq....and its gdp alone is 3 times that of london...it is litirally the capital of the world with the international congress present there(the UN HQ)...........sooooo
both london and ny are economic hubs. cultural center?well yes concidering again both london and ny are international citys and why do you think that the gdp is larger than that of london? is it possibly down to the fact that the usa is many times larger than the uk? bigger doesnt mean that new york is a superior place and why do you think the un is in ny? think about when the un was formed and get back to me on that one. if you had explored london a bit you wouldnt be so arrogant and bitter
I wouldnt want it either. After bejing blew us away, London will have no chance to make a statment, it will be considered tacky and shitty no matter what they do.
The Olympics would' be as popular today - watched by billions - if they were just another sports tournament. They are more than that. And afterall the ceremonies are the events that get the highest ratings worldwide.
Every Olympic Games has compelling stories to tell, one of them is that of the host city. This video does that by promoting New York.
the recurring melodies are actually part of the song "olympic fanfare" so yea i think it's trying to show how nyc is diverse yet incorporating the olympic culture in the society.
i don't think new york should have won anyway even if it was an amazing bid (which coincidentally it definetely wasn't). the truth of the matter is that the US has hosted the olympic games in 1984, 1996 and 2002 just to mention a few. if they had won the 2012 games that would be a gap of a mere three games! london last hosted the games in 1948, paris in 1928 (i think). for the same reason i didn't think madrid should have won.
Nice presentation of the city, if a little lacking in Olympic references (London and Paris were hardly subtle with theirs). Not that the entire decision making was based on the promotional pieces.
This has to have been one of the toughest decisions for the IOC to have made in a long time, and those who lost out shouldn't have felt bad.
If New Yorkers did feel bad about the decision, imagine how it must have been for the French.
moscow and NYC would be great candidates for the 2012 olympics. Moscow looks like the advanced city of Naboo from starwars and NYC looks like the advanced city of corrascunt from star wars.....wierd.
But 2012 wasn't the best timing for a NY bid, not right after Vancouver 2010. 2016 would have really favored a NY Games, but they didn't even try to get USOC nomination.
New York is one the of the only, if the only city of that is so wonderfully diverse and cultured that hasn't hosted the Games. I hope the Chicago looses to Tokyo or Rio for 2016, so that NY could possibly put up a bid for 2020. If they do, it'll be tough - 2020's looking like a fight between European capitals, probably South Africa, and depending on 2016, Asian cities and cities from the Americas.
Also further more for what i was saying earlier...
I believe that New York should have won over London hands down... One reason why i believe that is because NYC is so culturally diverse and i think more globally cultured than London...
Are you an idiot, have you ever been to London? home to people of every race and faith. More than 300 languages are spoken in London, and whilst some cultural groups have been here for centuries, 30% of Londoners today were born abroad. Londons history is greatly more impressive than that of New York City. With its beginings in the Roman period. That said NY is a great city, its just irrartating for a person to claim that London is not diverse when they have obviously never visited.
The Americas weren't even discovered at the time of the Roman Empire, you douche. The ancestors of White Americans were still on the continent of Europe.
New York's history is completely in its own field, which wasn't born til a mere 200 years ago. Get some sense man, you can't compare the two.
You are contradicting yourself there - you first post a comment saying that americans wouldn't care for the olympics then you say that new york should have won over london.come off it.London won the bid for a reason.
The sad thing is that NYC is probably the #1 place to host an Olympic city... Sadly i don't believe Americans would care for the Olympics. The rest of the world at least gives a damm about the games. America wake up and get some culture... I am saying this as an American
If you're referring to small boony towns who are still living in the 50s and 60s then I'd agree with your statement... But apparently you aren't a resident of the 21st century.
I really hope NY gets them in the next 20 years or so (Even if it means Chicago 2016 failing). NY's pretty much the only world, glamour city that hasn't hosted them yet. :(
How in the heck has New York City, the largest, most important, best known city in the world, not ever held the Olympics. They should get it, just because.
I understand what you're saying, but the US is such a large country... from Los Angeles to New York... SO different. New York deserves the Olympics. The city stands for so much.
What the hell does that mean? It's in the top three most populous cities in the world, not to mention, the most CULTURED city in the world. Please do explain why it's "not an Olympic town".
RhodeIslander88, I meant that NYC doesn't take it's sports nearly as seriously as most major cities in the world let alone the U.S. Sports get so much attention because it's the media capital of the world.
New York really needs to be in the olynpics

Tokyo is largest in terms of METRO POPULATION. Otherwise it's a city of 8.6 million.
New York is the largest when you measure it's METRO AREA. Not city proper. I never said anything about population in that regard.
So perhaps you need to check your facts.

new york is a cultural center that attracts talented people from across the country and the world, it is a economical center nyse, nasdaq....and its gdp alone is 3 times that of london...it is litirally the capital of the world with the international congress present there(the UN HQ)...........sooooo
detroitmetro101 2 years ago
both london and ny are economic hubs. cultural center?well yes concidering again both london and ny are international citys and why do you think that the gdp is larger than that of london? is it possibly down to the fact that the usa is many times larger than the uk? bigger doesnt mean that new york is a superior place and why do you think the un is in ny? think about when the un was formed and get back to me on that one. if you had explored london a bit you wouldnt be so arrogant and bitter

is this supposed to be related to the olympic games, or even to sport?
kaedokuro 3 years ago 3
Exactly, no reference whatsoever.
robmunro1989 3 years ago 3
The Olympics would' be as popular today - watched by billions - if they were just another sports tournament. They are more than that. And afterall the ceremonies are the events that get the highest ratings worldwide.
Every Olympic Games has compelling stories to tell, one of them is that of the host city. This video does that by promoting New York.
TheNYFlame 3 years ago
Well this is a tad pants! Were were the mentions about the olympics in that!
Besides, were would they put all of the grounds needed, it's such a dense city there'd be no room!! :P

NYC would do what theyve always done in this situation. Use North Jersey. Where do the Giants, and the Jets play?? New Jersey. Look it up. :) hah

the recurring melodies are actually part of the song "olympic fanfare" so yea i think it's trying to show how nyc is diverse yet incorporating the olympic culture in the society.

awful presentation....
4unnydud3 3 years ago 2
yeh i not quite understand that a bit stupid! it not say anything about why they should hae it. i really like the london video
jmartini41 3 years ago 4
i don't think new york should have won anyway even if it was an amazing bid (which coincidentally it definetely wasn't). the truth of the matter is that the US has hosted the olympic games in 1984, 1996 and 2002 just to mention a few. if they had won the 2012 games that would be a gap of a mere three games! london last hosted the games in 1948, paris in 1928 (i think). for the same reason i didn't think madrid should have won.
tomcrackers 3 years ago
2002?
Strompy82 3 years ago
Nice presentation of the city, if a little lacking in Olympic references (London and Paris were hardly subtle with theirs). Not that the entire decision making was based on the promotional pieces.
This has to have been one of the toughest decisions for the IOC to have made in a long time, and those who lost out shouldn't have felt bad.
If New Yorkers did feel bad about the decision, imagine how it must have been for the French.
SireBogart 3 years ago
moscow and NYC would be great candidates for the 2012 olympics. Moscow looks like the advanced city of Naboo from starwars and NYC looks like the advanced city of corrascunt from star wars.....wierd.

Didn't New York lose its bid for the 2012 olympics? i read that on wikepedia.
Maxiedude13 3 years ago
Yes.
But 2012 wasn't the best timing for a NY bid, not right after Vancouver 2010. 2016 would have really favored a NY Games, but they didn't even try to get USOC nomination.

NYCeddie15 3 years ago

But that is just an opinion
Jcool663 4 years ago
Are you an idiot, have you ever been to London? home to people of every race and faith. More than 300 languages are spoken in London, and whilst some cultural groups have been here for centuries, 30% of Londoners today were born abroad. Londons history is greatly more impressive than that of New York City. With its beginings in the Roman period. That said NY is a great city, its just irrartating for a person to claim that London is not diverse when they have obviously never visited.
davidjames789 3 years ago 8
The Americas weren't even discovered at the time of the Roman Empire, you douche. The ancestors of White Americans were still on the continent of Europe.
New York's history is completely in its own field, which wasn't born til a mere 200 years ago. Get some sense man, you can't compare the two.
ChoctawCreek 3 years ago
You are contradicting yourself there - you first post a comment saying that americans wouldn't care for the olympics then you say that new york should have won over london.come off it.London won the bid for a reason.
Xxfancythat79xX 3 years ago
The sad thing is that NYC is probably the #1 place to host an Olympic city... Sadly i don't believe Americans would care for the Olympics. The rest of the world at least gives a damm about the games. America wake up and get some culture... I am saying this as an American
Jcool663 4 years ago
If you're referring to small boony towns who are still living in the 50s and 60s then I'd agree with your statement... But apparently you aren't a resident of the 21st century.

sadly i have asked numerous people wat they would have thought and they basically said that they would hav 0% interest in the games at all...

How in the heck has New York City, the largest, most important, best known city in the world, not ever held the Olympics. They should get it, just because.
lordofwrath88 4 years ago 6
USA not need olympics for next 40 years there has been held so many times.....
mrjfin 4 years ago
I understand what you're saying, but the US is such a large country... from Los Angeles to New York... SO different. New York deserves the Olympics. The city stands for so much.
ChoctawCreek 4 years ago 2
Also, I want to say New York is the ONLY American city that deserves the Olympics.
Think of the unique European-based history it holds, what the Statue of Liberty stands for, she's a universal image.
ChoctawCreek 4 years ago 4
3.1 billion dollars was a lot of money just 4 them 2 host the olympics. it woulda been a great experience

An interesting ad, but still NYC is NOT an Olympic town.
masslib 4 years ago
What the hell does that mean? It's in the top three most populous cities in the world, not to mention, the most CULTURED city in the world. Please do explain why it's "not an Olympic town".
ChoctawCreek 4 years ago
What is your definition of culture?
Is it world heritage sites? Museums? Economy? Media? people?
Theater? interest in sport? Population?
'cause if its any of those than London and Paris have a pretty good case against New York.
crossfire1066 3 years ago
What the hell... So, you're claiming New York isn't known for any of those things? New York is known for ALL of those things.
You're in denial.
