@walk2fly = I live in Florida, USA . For a true ultralight, weighing less than 254lbs or 278lbs with an emergency parachute, you don't need to certify or register it. No license or medical certificate is required to fly it, but I strongly urge you to get some DUAL instruction with an instructor before you attempt to fly one.
@webcamfann how much training do you have to have? hour wise.... is it hard to learn? i want to get one.. .. but the kind i want is the amphibious kind that can land and dock on water.... that would be SOOOO much fun to take down to the lake in the summer :) .... but where would you even buy one of these at?? the hardest part is finding them / people who know about them.... i can't imagine how hard it would be to find the amphibious kind i want... were did you get yours? who taught you?
@BaWe59 - Yes, the right pedal is for the throttle, and the left pedal is for the wheel-brakes. Most trikes also have a cruise-throttle lever mounted on the side of the seat.
@SR71pilot2007 ultralights are probably the safest flying vehicle known to man at the moment. the safest is probably a trike ultralight, (sometimes known as a powered hanglider).
@HongKongBoyz100 - Trikes are reasonably safe, but you do not have as much control with weight-shift aircraft as you do with a 3-axis aileron, elevator, and rudder aircraft. You have no yaw-control with weight-shift aircraft, so they are very limited for crosswind takeoffs and landings. Bank control is also not as fast or as positive as a conventional 3-axis aircraft.
I have thousands of hours of flying time from small supersonic jets to large jet transports, but I needed about 6 hours of dual instruction in a larger 2-place trike. All of the control inputs of a trike are reversed from the normal control inputs of a conventional airplane, so you MUST learn a different habit-pattern with no mistakes close to the ground, when landing and taking off.
@rockonmario - Best to use ethanol-free auto pump gas 87 octane or higher. My trike has a Rotax-447 2-cycle engine that requires 2-cycle air-cooled oil mixed with gas 50 to 1 ratio.
I have 2 questions, are u a pilot, Does it requires to land 3 tires at once or back tires first??

@SR71pilot2007 - They are pretty safe if you get the proper instruction, use good judgemnt, and maintain them properly.

Lets say you have a 90 degree cross breeze. What is the maximum wind speed you would consider taking off in?
sigmedical 2 years ago
For me, on a wide field, my limit is something under 10mph
webcamfann 1 year ago
Trikes have no rudder, and with weight-shift, you don't have the quick directional control that conventional aircraft have.

i have close to 1000 hours on trikes but i newer fly without a helmet
Farmer1953 2 years ago 5
Very good advice. I rarely fly without a helmet.

@webcamfann Americans use Helmet for everything, even for pooping...

That looked like way too much fun. How much instruction time is needed for one of those?
