My 1998 Toyota Tacoma has 246,000 miles on it.

Other than tires, brakes, timing belt and a battery, it has never had a problem. No major service ever. Most American made cars would have been done over a 100,000 miles ago...with tons of major service. In the words of the great Yoda, "That Is Why You Fail".

Yeah. Ford is the worst of them; a major part will fail every 10,000 miles almost. On the other hand, I've had a 1993 GMC Sonoma and a '98 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that have run fine with no problems.

CNN did a short news listing re: Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington after 911, the findings are as follows:Ford- $10 million plus matching employee contributions,GM-$10 million plus matching employee contributions,Chrysler- $10 million. Perhaps if they spent all that money lobbying against stricter CAFE standards and used it (and i know this sounds crazy) to meet those standards, they'd still be on top!!! I am not for helping out the automakers; I recently saw the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car" and what the auto makers did was awful. Consumers need a break when it comes to automobiles and gasoline; both are in bed together; only their bottom line. Our government should have done something about this a long time ago. If you need to restructure, then that is what you need to do; employees will be the ones to suffer.

I feel your pain. I am a nurse (RN). I have always written my own ticket. Not any more. My whole dept was laid off last year and I cannot find a job as 3 hospitals have merged to 2,surplus of nurses and many, many new graduates seeking jobs. I am 60yrs old and cannot get Social Security for two more years at a lower amount. I don't think we have seen the worst yet. There will be bread lines Either that or Obama can work miracles. I say only bail out the auto makers only if all upper management take a 75% pay cut, build only "Diesel" engine and electrically powered cars and pre-fund worker pay at present levels for 1 year in a trust fund.
