It's been 2-3 seasons. How did he repower work out? How has the performance been? Have there been any problems with the engine? Are the unpainted governor and throttle parts standing up to getting wet? Any rusting? Thanks trouts2, David
I noticed this was originally a 8 hp machine. Is the 6.5 sufficient? Did the shaft match up easily? Any mod's that need to be done other than just swapping the engines?
I have a 5hp MTD and this seems like a nice upgrade. Thanks in advance
The 8HP engine is overkill this 6.5 is more than sufficent. Everything lined up fine it was a 40 minute swap! Look for a new video of this machine in service in a day or two!
I ran mine recently in 15 degree weather and it runs fine. Moves snow very nice and doesn't bog in heavy snow like my tired Tecumseh. Who needs warm air intake? I was worried about that at first too but it runs nice. It's on an old Sears direct chain drive blower.
How the heck did you get that engine to work! I got one and it didn't work! Even the one I was exchanged didn't work! 2 failed engines, how is everyone getting theirs to work but mine... blargh!
I used one of those 6.5 HP engines with a hilliard clutch on a bicycle pusher, and the power is amazing! No matter what gear ratio, the motor has LOTS of torque. It would make a great kart motor.
I've now removed the governor from the engine, and it's EVEN BETTER. 50mph on a bicycle is no joke! These are EXCELLENT engines!!! BTW, it's a HONDA clone, so you can get Honda parts real easy. affordablegokarts com has any upgraded engine parts you need. This is a Honda GX200 clone
Not really a Cart Motor. You'll have to make some throttle modifications for usage on a cart. It has a lot of guts and runs great. They don't have a large oil capacity PLEASE CHECK YOUR OIL before you run!
One more thing, What are you gonna do when the chinese piece of shit breaks? Where you gonna find parts?? That's the only reason I didn't buy one for my snowblower.
Just cause it's chinese, don't assume it's junk. It's a HONDA GX200 clone engine, any Honda GX200 parts work for it. Honda allows other chinese companies to copy their engines and sell them cheap. Also the actual Honda engines are also made in China. I love a cheap powerful engine, and if it breaks, parts are cheap, and so are replacement engines!
Ummm... this motor is used a LOT with great results. Now seeing how this motor on sale is $109.00, could you please point me to a 209.00 Genuine Honda 6.5hp motor because I will buy them all day long at that price. The thing is that by the time many snow-blowers, tillers, ect made now are ready for a new motor... the rest is about shot. Like them or not, these are really not bad little motors for almost less than the cost of a car battery!
@krankiev harbor freight has every part(every part)some are special order but there customer service dept just asked for the part # and sent it on its way.

I want to do this with ours. See if you can figure out how to get the air to come in through next to the muffler so its warm air.

Did you run your engine without the air filter? Every snowblower i have seen doesn't use one.

Toss it out and buy another one. For 99 bucks they are disposable.
sonofjabba 3 years ago
Lol, they cost more where I live... what I found odd was the 13 hp is actually 50 bucks cheaper than the 11 hp engine... retards?

i hate everything made in china thats what killed the american economy- outsourcing. The engines are probably fine. But I still hate 'em.

If they are the same design, do they use the same quality materials or cheaper cast metals?
jazzicron911 3 years ago
off brand engines are made with way cheaper materials.
