  • Cracking! The youth of today don't know they're born :) Thanks.

  • SO much better than Brian Ferry's retched version. Reminds me a bit of Ian Drury! AND I have NEVER heard tthose 3rd thru 5th verses! you freaking rock.

  • @fredxmertz

Thanks very much - I didn't know Brian Ferry had done this.

  • @casetone2514

I generally like Brian Ferry, but he did IMHO a poor version of this very powerful and emotive piece. It was on a PIRATE music compilation put out by Jonny Depp after the first Pirate of the Carribean movie. Thanks for digging up those extra verses, well done. cheers.

  • Death and misery? Fits right in with the weather today!

  • Flippin' heck - the weather's bad here today but as far as I'm aare it hasn't caused any deaths. Must be pretty lousy where you are.

    Thanks

  • There's nothing like death and misery when it's delivered this well! Wonderful!

  • Absolutely!

    Thanks M-A

  • brilliant, a joy to listen to.

  • A Joy!?!?

    Thanks

  • excellent job tony

  • Thanks very much

  • wow awesome 5stars

  • Thank you

  • Excellent song, Tony. I really like these kind of stories, even if they're that cruel. The story obviously has moved people throughout the ages, otherwise it would no longer exist. So whoever this unfortunate boy was, who got beaten to death, the song has made him immortal...

  • Thanks very much

  • Geez.... I hope your new boss doesn't hear this one :) I love the intense strumming pattern you use on this song. Very nice.

  • Strum + unusual chord change places was a nightmare to learn but surprisingly easy once mastered.

    Thank you

  • wow! that is intense Tony. Great singing and playing. I think your traditionals are outstanding!!!!

  • Thanks very much Kevin

  • I'm so depressed now I can't stop smiling! You knocked this one outta da park. Excellent job.

  • Thanks very much

  • Nice job!

Love the traditional stuff, you do it well.

  • Thank you

  • Very disturbingly inspiring...

  • Thanks

  • great job tony

    Ken G

  • Thanks Ken

  • Great feeling to this one, you should've worn a cowboy hat!

  • Huh!?

I usually only wear that with my leather chaps and nothing else!

    Thanks Mike

  • My kind o' depressing old song!! I always like it when it has a cautionary ending like that. :-) Great strumming and singing!

  • Thanks very much

  • Holy cow!

  • Mooo!

    Amen.

  • Nasty. Not you (obviously).

Its a shame that we cant all think how great it is that this sort of thing never happens now

  • ....not in our part of the world anyway. I think that it is a sad indictment of the human condition that the most recent similar episode on a British ship that I could find was less than 150 years ago.

    Thanks Caroline

  • delightful tune Tony!

  • Delightful, eh......?

I'm obviously not trying hard enough. I was going for disturbing!

Not to worry. I have a doozie for Christmas.

  • Great as always!

    Glad I subscribed.

  • Thanks very much

  • What an amazing song, Tony. Where did you find this one?

Terrific ukulele ryhthm as an accompaniment.

  • I have known this song (to listen to) for a number of years but I came across it with a slightly different tune in a book called Marrowbones which contains a selection of songs from the Hammond and Gardiner collection. It's a pretty good book but only has lyrics and melody - no arangements.

    Thanks Ken

  • I love the sound!

  • And the words are wicked!

  • Thanks very much

  • I thought this was going to be a song about kennymelodica!

  • How do you know it isn't?

  • Excellent! I knew I was feeling a little too cheery as of late ;)

  • That'll learn ya!

    Thanks Shane

  • Really cool song!

  • Thanks Deach

  • Listened to it a few times to check I was hearing the lyrics right! lol. Spine-chillingly disturbing (not you, the lyrics!) Brrr! All because he offended him?! But I love your song choices! Excellently performed, great playing and singing, as usual! :-) X

  • Thanks Ruth - you can't beat a bit of violent death in a song, I say.

  • excellent and gripping performance. Dark subject matter with a great tune

  • Thanks guys.

  • Love your old "pirate" songs Tony!

  • Arrrrrrr

  • I really enjoyed your strummin' and singin' on this one, Tony (despite the subject of the song).

  • Thanks
