  • Cant wait to see how robots have developed in 50 years. Persocoms ftw.

  • Mini Pooper

  • this is like a fucking movie!

  • Holy crap. If you think about it, computers have only been around for the past like 50 years and they were very basic, and now 50 years later theres already robots that have artificial intelligence (no matter how primitve) Imagine what will happen in the future!!!

On the other hand, in 100 years we went from gunpowder to A-Bombs and Nuculear Warheads. Just imagine what could happen in the next 50 years....

    MIND = BLOWN

  • 6:28 "it's the beginning of the end.

  • i kept waiting for the machine to erratically break out of it's restraints and epically bash this guys brains out with mini toy cooper.

  • this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Asimo needs a hug...

  • FREAKING JUST LOST TICTACTOE AGAINST THE COMPUTER!

  • poor asimo. they teach him the robot toy its his grandpa.

  • listen there are human brain pieces inside or some other form of biological mechanism of brain nuerons combined wtih electronics. That has to be

  • this is sooooooo fucking creepy

  • He's soooo cute :D

I like how he wants to touch everything

  • That is impressive.

  • I really don't like the idea of clever robots...

  • i think the fact that when you look at him you begin to asses how he feels, the wires holding him in place, the fact he looks confused at 1:47 etc, makes you want to release him and make him happy shows that we are not to far of giving him a fully formed "Soul". by wich i mean giving him every componen of a very basic LIVING organism.

  • I want ask to asimo ''what you think about the life?''XD

  • can you fuck it?

  • people always say that robots cant be conscious because they are just a simulation of what humans can do by their own choice. ASIMO is a great example to prove them wrong. ASIMO isnt hard wired to do the things he does. nobody typed in a program to determine exactly what it is that he would to in this video. he is able to make decisions about his surroundings and act upon them. that is intelligence and i believe that he is a living being.

  • @mtdeezy no. somewhere along the line, every single thing he does has been programmed by man. when he sees something close by, he has been told to look at it, to reach at it and to attempt to identify it. this is not a living being. its software and electronics

  • what show was this from

  • hope it would someday be used as future tutors for students

  • it really needs a sense of touch

  • 0:40

*analyzing for weakness in human hand*

  • @EmperorOfMars *the tiny little arm from R2 comes out of ASIMO's head and pokes the hand*

  • Every day, one step closer to Kurzweils future. :)

  • Wow, Awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing. These are the types of programs that our youth should be exposed with: interesting, engaging and all around coooool...

  • asimo is totally going to rape the narrator guy

  • why is captain slow tellin us wot hes showin asimo we can all see that its a mini. he shouldent say anythin like he does wen he picks up the toy duck if hes not hintin sumthin in that mic hmm

  • The key is working on the a.i software itself, and then worry about the robotics. It's like putting a brain dead brain in a body, sort of.

  • @YvesIsaki Yeah, the robotics are a cakewalk compared to the AI.

  • so cute.! so cute.! just like a little baby .! :)

  • Thts amazing how much did asimo cost to build nt tht im planning on building 1

  • I can't wait till there's an Asimo in every home!

  • its 1 mill dolors dude! no one will have it!!

  • I've read estimates that it will cost around 3 thousand dollars by the year 2025 (and be far more advanced).

  • @wired500

Oh yeah, and lets put a spy program so we can record every human into one giant database, yay!.

  • @Haloya101 he know because some car models was already on his database, and a car at this size can only be a toy car...

this AI is beginning of a dream...

  • i need the source of this video...

  • Is from a "James May's Big Ideas" episode

  • thanks dude...

  • Aiko can do the same thing, but can't walk.

  • "Maybe Toy Car"

    o_o

    How does he know?!

  • @Haloya101 probably the same way he could tell that the stool was a type of chair. Certain properties.

  • @VitaNuovaRevolution

Like what? The shape of the toy was a car but not the size a realistic car would be, so he puts the properties of how a toy's size and shape is unrealistic to that it's trying to depict and sort of "assumed" it's a toy car?

  • @Haloya101 No. Remember when he showed Asimo the toy robot? He didn't know what it was, but he taught him that it was grandpa. So the next time he sees an action figure with the same properties, he will call it grandpa. So they probably just showed him a hotwheel and said "Toy car." He noticed its general shape and the four wheels and such.

  • What is this clip from? I'd love to see the whole program.

  • I want his bigger brother, say 6.6ft or something........

  • That's the first terminator right there XD

How long before it looks at humans and thinks "KILL!!!" hahaha

  • "mini pooper"

  • amazing.

  • Poor, Is like a child, he want to take everything sees... :)

  • frakkin cylons

  • I find interesting the way asimo moves it's hands when examining the tables, look like it can already think

  • it can it even makes his own dicisions

  • @Grandeur001 I am thinking that is a signal. When asimo moves its hand show that it is running algorithms of interest to recognition or learning the object.

  • oh and to clarify with the idiots about 50 comments below me XD they just think he's reacting to preprogammed cues. he's not he is analysing every property the objects have he is checking the height shape colours and just about every other detail he can and he guessed that the stool was a form of chair and james prooved that it wasn't already programmed into his prosseser by getting a table from the lounge and asimo said that it wasnt a chair... so it's not programming it is inteligence.

  • :D i love the cartoon smile on his face... still this guy would make a great christmas present XD wonder how much he costs?

  • $125,000 USD for your own Cylon. With a built in Learning CPU, with neural-net.

  • where could i buy one? :D

  • Contact HONDA, or TOYOTA. I love droids. Since the early 1960s.

  • is it really only 125.000usd cause this would be pretty afordable for that kind of technology

  • The technology gets cheaper every 6-months as it improves. That's the field of electronics and software. And Artificial Intelligence (A.I>), which this is the beginning stages of. Think how far this technology will be evolved in 25-years, in 2035.

  • but he could build me a house and give me even more after this i mean this is too afordable lol

  • You could have a small team of 5-7 asimos working in tandem build your house for you in less than a month.

  • that is very scary and of course would become gainfull at long term

  • Dump Man. >>> AZimo LIVES.

  • amazing

  • Anyone knows what the wonderfull mellow music is when he´s asking the Asimo about the cooper and `grandpa` ?

  • i quite like it too i dont know though

  • send asimo to mars or any part in space

  • i wonder if anyone from the future has come to destroy asimo...

  • what's the music at 3:13?

  • He did say mini POOPER... lol

  • seriously not to some immature kid it actually sound like he said mini pooper

  • Vert impressive

  • Well, it would suck if later in the future Honda sells ASIMOs and they make the machine carry on with this learning capability. What if he guesses the wrong answer? How can you correct it? Hope Honda's got the answer or my robot would end up stupid if he got a table wrong as a chair.

  • if he guesses the wrong answer you say the right answer simple as XD watch the video properley

  • man, those people have the coolest job!! working with the most advance robot! i hope after school i can get into something like this.

  • for all the ppl saying he says "mini pooper" YOU ARE WRONG he Says "Mini COOPER"

  • Man, I'd love to work for this company. Instead of buying for a company that builds radars, missiles and fighter-jets

    =o(

  • that's just scary...

    I WANT ONE!!!!!

  • Atualy the Asimo has it's own intlligence, a machine that relies on just progamming, will take a look at a different object and assume it is the same as the first, for example it would have thought the toy robot was a rubber duck, but instead realised it was something else.

As well as the fact that it was able to recognise the stool as a type of chair, despite being totaly diffrent from what it came to recognise as a chair.

A machine should not be expected to make those sort of jugements.

  • Well we kind of work like robots.

We look at object, we look at the outline and the difference of color from other objects to identify where the object is located. We then trace the simple polygons in the object and render it as a 3D object or a 2D object. We loop through out memory and then we pick out objects that seem best fitting for the object.

Imagination is simply just your brain getting high.

  • so basically, like how the human race was created as a slave race, we are now creating our human creature.

    This is the Neanderthal stages.

  • No this is almost brain dead monkey...stage.

  • Are you sure that your are not "in" what you describe as "brain dead monkey...stage?"

  • It's so cute when he says grandpa

he sounds happy to see him!

  • LOL asimo want eliminate the guy at 3:27 it is pointing him with the red square

  • listen closely.. i SWEAR he says "mini pooper" at 3:56

  • WAAAA i want a asimo

  • 3:10 to 3:40

poor asimo.. give the toy to asimo he want it!

  • he does a better job than clarkson. clarkson just takes the piss.

  • I want one. Dam I only have £1.

  • When you sit back and think the modern concept of a 'Home Computer' has only really been around for say 20-30yrs and if you was to compare a 'Home Computer' say from the early 80's to a modern high powered 'Home Computer' its a scarey thought that given another 30yrs what will a 'Home Computer' be able to do, and lets face it the really fast stuff is never found in the home but in a lab somewhere, scarey thought

  • lol i dont really understand you're talking bodyboarder but i vote for you because it really isn't the intelligence of the robot but the intelligence of the programmer who programmed him

  • I will consider it a true consious robot when it can have a conversation on its own and invent new words. But this is a step in the right direction.

It simmilar to Einstein the parrot. he knew what a bannana was, was and what a blueberry was, but he had never learned what a grape was called. So when he wanted one, he reached for it and said, "give me nanaberry." He had made his own word for what he wanted out of parts of words he already knew that were simmilar to the object.

  • We are Dead!! WE ARE ALL DEAD!!

  • mini pooper!

  • sooner or later, there will be a real life evangelion or a gundam mechs used in the army

  • It can learn things, maybe It can judge situation or object by its progrmmed algorithms, It can repeat things and move in the space it has never been before... BUT it CAN'T CREATE!!! Only human has a creative mind! No robot will have that ability... EVER!

  • u wish...hehe..in less then 20 years ull see it happening...because ther eis n osuch thing has unique feauture to human beings.. No robot will have that ability... EVER! -no robot? what do you think humans are besides complex robots (in relation to those man made)?

  • I agree that humans are sort of complex robots. About mind creativity, well, a lotta the brain functions are uncovered, who knows. Maybe we got more potential than robots in creativity... or maybe just to fantasize about them. ^.*

  • i don't know about ever, about 100 years ago people believed no one could fly we cant even start to comprehend what we might achieve thousands of years in the future. our bodies are machines as well, made of organic matter but it can be replicated ... eventually but not in the near future.

  • soon they will be able to kill us

    cool!!! isn't it?

  • It's a frakkin Cylon

  • When hte robot can make the algorithms themselves... can program itself to understand the world aorund... then I'll be impressed. But right now it just looks like some impressive programming, but it doesn't seem to possess actual intelligence.

  • Can you program a human brain?

It's very primitive intelligence, but it's real. What sets it apart from deterministic scripting is that it's not simply reacting to preprogrammed cues, it's legitimately analyzing what it's looking at, comparing all of its properties to the properties of other things it has seen and so on. It's real visual intelligence, albeit in an early form, similar to what you can find in some parrots.

  • I know you're right, the "intelligence" these people are seeing in Asimo's behavior is the intelligence of the people who programmed him... there's a paradox here that people aren't seeing... Programming means to tell the computer what to do, Asimo is just running the script and imagination is NOT running from a script, and the paradox is that you can't program a computer to not do what it's told... so you can't tell asimo to not be told what to do

  • Comment removed

  • But that is the NATURE of A. I. ! It can LEARN. past a point of critical-mass, you have a point of awareness in the universe, called:a consciousness. Any of you remember when you wer one or two years old? I rest my case!

  • What if the concept of Imagination was able to be programmed into him? Interesting...

  • Ok and what is the "concept of imagination" ? O_o imagination isn't a concept lol it's just the opposite of that that's why you can't program a computer to have imagination because it's not as simple as a concept

  • SCIENCE IS COOL!!!

  • He can tell how far away people are by how big they are, i wonder if a small kid would throw him off. and he can't tell where the sounds come from when the guy has the head set on. and yea he does say mini pooper

  • so amazing. alone from this behaviour one can interpret so much more "conscioussness" in this machine, because it behaves more humanlike.

it felt a bit like i had the wish to protect it and make him feel comfortable.

  • I actually thought that too, but then again I have an exceptional interest in Robotics. But definitely not the machines of gross domestication like the vacuum 'robots'. To me these are still machines, I believe a Robot is something that most definitely has to be humanoid and that I can communicate with.

  • imagine a mix from the "new" asimo (for bodymovement and so on) and these japanese facial "robots" that sometimes look real scary (real - but scary =) (Eva, Actroid, Jules....)

(Eva looks like a botox-victim, but still the facial expression is amazing)

  • Yeah I know what you mean I have seen the Eva android (although if they are modeled after females then its called a Gynoid, allegedly). The expressions are realistic but in my opinion they should have the mechatronics and movement systems perfected first before they start getting too caught up in the aesthetics.

  • the female "gynoids" all have a little strange look for me. dont know why. and when the (male&female) smile, it looks verry creepy)

but anyway, its fantastic where the robotics went from the first robots to today.

  • Have you seen the HRP-4C? It's a very slender humanoid robot with a skin covered head and articulated face, exactly like what you're discussing.

  • how long until he takes over the world lol....... 6:35

  • This is just the begining, wait till they get into quantam computers and technology

  • It looks like it want to touch those objects despereatly, I wanna see what happen if they really let it grab them...

Would it be just like a when newborn baby get a new toy??

  • i freaking love Asimo :D

  • 4:36とか見入ってしまった。

    これは難しそうなプログラムだ。。。

    どうやって組んだんだろう?

  • Amazing....... but a little scary :D

  • ita littlebit sad that he cant feel

  • its the beginning of skynet....they must be stopped!

  • what a cute robot

  • I can't explain why but this brings a tear to my eye. But a good one I think.

  • Asimo needs more colors on its face

  • asimo is cute and he is. my boyfriend

  • James May's Big Idea?

  • Haha, Mini Pooper.

  • exactly what i was thinking

  • Yes, but since the robot is only attuned to certain keywords to get its attention (plus the fact that someone behind the scenes could be muting it), it is in all probability that the robot does not know what it is.

  • but he isnt paying attention to what the object looks like. he is hearing what it is but doesnt no the exact object.

  • of course, but it expects you to tell it what the new object is, so it learns it, then you just call its name and it will decide if its seen it or not before :P

  • its great and at the same time scary, someday robots will look back at this videos of us humans showing them how to see the world and think. How will they think of us? as their fathers or something?

  • nice toy, but i bet it's pretty expensive...

  • i want one

  • The accents of the German Engineers - LOL!!! :D

  • that ... is... amazing.

  • that guy is sexy, i want to sex him

  • ...

  • this is good but also bad because alot of companys will buy these robots and cut down on human staff so more people will be out of work.. BUT I DON'T MINE HAVING 1 TO ROLL ME A JOINT HA HA LOL...

  • lol wow...

  • thats brilliant.

  • thats so friggen neat that i'm speechles :D

    .w

  • "Grampa."

  • i feel kinda sorry for him, the way he moves and speaks and recognizes, its new instead of programmed.

If robots can be human than this is the closest one has got so far

  • there's another robot being made than can learn how to walk, and i'm pretty sure the learning to walk program was made before this one

  • Do you happen to have a link for that? I would like to see something on it. Thanks.

  • I do like James May, but I'd love to see Asimo look at him and say "Captain Slow" :D

  • that was awesome! couldnt think of anyone better than cpt slow to be in it! :))

  • I want one of that in my life xD

  • 5:02

  • 2:51

  • AMAZING!!

  • Have these guys never seen terminator?

  • rtm1137, I don't know what to do with you. You are sound like another victim from Hollywood movie. Every one dosen't need to know or we don't need to know terminator. OK ?!

  • Yes, people like rtm1137 were afraid of computers once as well.

  • if that silly cyborg scared you then you will have nightmares looking at the one called "talon" hehehe

    /watch?v=EhR8PMllkjY

  • Moving...

  • It's going to suck when technology gains consciousness and destroys humans.Scary stuff!!

  • would be pretty exciting to witness though, no?

Sit back with a bottle of rum, watch and enjoy

  • May I suggest that it be a bottle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum?

  • that's my favorite!

  • he wants to hold it and the asshole wont let him XD

  • incredible

  • What programme is this?

    Adam x

  • top gear? maybe

  • "James May's Big Ideas" is the name of this show.

  • all you need to do with teach one robot everything, then mass duplicate it and place them in other robots.

  • LOL, Is he saying mini pooper? I swear he is saying mini pooper! HAHAHAHAHA

  • Sounds a bit strange, but James 'should' have given ASIMO the toys a form of reward after identifying them. Let the little guy play a bit, you hairy, cruel British man!

  • Oh and I forgot to say : Pure marketing since 2002
