He's not really connecting with her. He's not clever enough to keep up. Yet she came on over-compensating and looking uncomfortable from the start. And yet bossy and authoritarian - she seems SO desperate to be "down with the kids" kicking her legs up, throwing her hair forward and yet will happily correct and scold the host of the show - she can't have it both ways. You're either going to play Captain or off-duty, you can't do both. I LOVE Mulgrew SO much, but it hard to watch. Two big egos.

@Parthur721 It most likely was a wig. More often than not, female characters use wigs so that they don't have to spend time getting their hair made up. In TNG, both Marina Sirtis and Gates McFadden had wigs (despite the fact that Gates' real hair was red and looked very much like Beverly's; Marina's hair, on the other hand, was black, but was straight, not curly). As Marina often says, "they can do your hair when you're not in it". :)

kate was always so much fun to watch. later in the books when her character dies it really hurts!! the fools actually decided to kill her off in a damn novel. wtf? and chakotay takes over as captain and this lady named "afsarah eden" and all . . . leaves something to be desired. besides the fact that the novelists had trouble writing believeable dialogue for each character. they keep screwing up seven's lines, for example. she rarely sounds like herself on the show.

Although Deep Space 9 will always be my favorite (though I accept that it is too much of an acquired taste for most people I know) Voyager was a fine work of art itself. Kate here seems like a very charming and down to earth woman. She almost makes me think of Ana Gasteyer or Jane Curtin if they had ended up doing serious roles rather than comedy.
