Ok you need to decide whether we are talking at this moment or all time. Because right now Dirk is playing like one of the best players in the league. But, since you want to say he is the best ever you are wrong. I will agree that Tim has had a good supporting cast, you need one to win rings which is why I have left that fact out of it. But, Dirk doesn't have the numbers all around to match Duncan. And versatility isn't defined by someone being unstoppable or not. That is just being unstoppable

Why is duncan better? Because he plays harder in the season? Look at drik lately, he doesnt toot his own horn and he lets his teamates have their moments in the season. Also im very big on h2h matchups and would you say they have had equally talented teams? Dirk has won 2 to tims 1 in the playoff series. Dirk hasnt won the big one but manu is a huge reason why they won those championships. Examples-first championship sean elliot off iinbound pass-2nd champion ship robinson shuts down shaq in semis- 3 championship manu was the best player in the playoffs.
My point is that when the lights are brightest who would you want? I want dirk, now everybody needs help and to me duncan has had bigger players then dirk has had. When they lost to the heat terry and harris played terrible in the last 4 games. tim had a blow out game by kerr in western finals where he dropped like 12 points in like 3 minutes. He is better shooter as in jump shot and threes but that does not make you versatile. That just means you are one dimensional. Yea Tim is My favorite player. He is the most Humble Guy in the NBA. he doesnt pound his chest or taunt the other players or the Crowd after a dunk or Block. They didnt give Robinson as much credit bc he was at the end of his career. Robinson gets tons of credit in the league and in SA. but it is kind of the same thing with karl malone...or maybe reggie miller....heck even michael jordan. once they were in the twilight of their respectives careers they just werent the center piece of their team. Tony Parker is now the center piece of the Spurs. Richard Jefferson was hoped to be another crucial piece but that hasnt exactly worked out so far.
Heres the thing too if you look at it, they havent had parker and yet there fine and will be fine in the playoffs if he doesnt play. In the season past duncan has missed games and they were fine. Tim was the biggest peice but to say tim was the most important is incorrect. Well lets just be honest and look at the facts. Duncan vs dirk and dirk has 2-1 series lead. Also last year without manu the spurs were nearly swept. So lets talk numbers in the playoffs(championships)- 06--07-16.5pts,3ass,5reb 04-05- 21pts, 4ass,5reb, and hes putting these numbers up in 30 or less minutes which means more touches for duncan and parker. Tim is great but if you replace tim with a average big they would do better then if they replace manu with an average sg(mason)

With Ginobili from Argentina, Parker from Paris, Duncan from Virgin Islands, and now Splitter from Brazil via Spain, I'm very proud of our team. Dude, that was SWEEEEETTT!!! I've been in San Antonio for 25 years and no matter what, I'll always be a Spurs Fan, & Manu is one of the best reasons why. He is a tornado with a basketball. There's no telling what kind of shot will come out of him....and just enough luck to make them. Did you see him smack a bat out of the air...on Halloween, no less? Who does that? & calmly carried it off the floor and resumed the game. He can absolutely CHARM a crowd. In S.A., he could run for Mayor.

Ok you need to decide whether we are talking at this moment or all time. Because right now Dirk is playing like one of the best players in the league. But, since you want to say he is the best ever you are wrong. I will agree that Tim has had a good supporting cast, you need one to win rings which is why I have left that fact out of it. But, Dirk doesn't have the numbers all around to match Duncan. And versatility isn't defined by someone being unstoppable or not. That is just being unstoppable

Why is duncan better? Because he plays harder in the season? Look at drik lately, he doesnt toot his own horn and he lets his teamates have their moments in the season. Hes averaging over 30pts and over 10boards in the last 7 games. Dirk is versatil simply because you cant stop him. Also im very big on h2h matchups and would you say they have had equally talented teams? Dirk has won 2 to tims 1 in the playoff series. Dirk hasnt won the big one but manu is a huge reason why they won those championships. Examples-first championship sean elliot off iinbound pass-2nd champion ship robinson shuts down shaq in semis- 3 championship manu was the best player in the playoffs.

My point is that when the lights are brightest who would you want? I want dirk, now everybody needs help and to me duncan has had bigger players then dirk has had. When they lost to the heat terry and harris played terrible in the last 4 games. tim had a blow out game by kerr in western finals where he dropped like 12 points in like 3 minutes. Tim though great has gotten alot of breaks to get his rings.

@The1118stilts Being versatile is doing everything on the court. Dirk is not a better passer than Tim, he is not a better defender, and he is not anywhere close to being able to post up like Tim. He is better shooter as in jump shot and threes but that does not make you versatile. That just means you are one dimensional. And going back to the whole rind situation, let me remind you that Tim wasn't just on the team. Yeah, he had help, but he did his part.

No mchale was 3rd and he himself said he played behind parish and bird, also dirk plays defense in the playoffs. You cant get to the western conference finals multiple times without playng defense. Also dirk averages over a block and steal in the playoffs. You watch the game tonight, who got big when they needed it? Dirk dropped 40 and made all the big plays. The key to veratility is how you use it.

Charles barkely too little and if i recall struggled against don nelson teams as well, plus was up twice against houston in playoffs and lost both times. Yea Tim is My favorite player. He is the most Humble Guy in the NBA. he doesnt pound his chest or taunt the other players or the Crowd after a dunk or Block. Really he hates media and attention. i wouldnt say he is overrated due to everything he has achieved but that NBA analyst only give credit to a select few. they just dont understand that one player doesnt win a title. look at Jordan he won 6 rings on the bulls with a great team but didnt do shit on Wizards.

I like tim alot too, i look at it this way before nash got to pheonix the team didnt make the playoffs then they made the western finals and dallas who just made the finals and were 1-1 vs the spurs before dirk got hurt, shows there importance. You look at kobe and wade after shaq leaves. The teams completely fall apart and arent playing for anything other then the playoffs. The team is far more important then the indivisual but in many cases 1 indivisual puts everyone into there proper position

im sorry but if you think tim duncan is overrated you must not know a lot about basketball. Tim Duncan might not be as flashy as players like Stoudomire etc. with tomahawk dunks..but 1on1 in the post there aren't very many players in the NBA capable of guarding Duncan. Duncan's game is quiet,but consistent. There isnt a coach,commentator, or player in the league who would call Duncan overrated, so why would you? They didnt give Robinson as much credit bc he was at the end of his career. Robinson gets tons of credit in the league and in SA. but it is kind of the same thing with karl malone...or maybe reggie miller....heck even michael jordan. once they were in the twilight of their respectives careers they just werent the center piece of their team. Tony Parker is now the center piece of the Spurs. Richard Jefferson was hoped to be another crucial piece but that hasnt exactly worked out so far.

Heres the thing too if you look at it, they havent had parker and yet there fine and will be fine in the playoffs if he doesnt play. In the season past duncan has missed games and they were fine. Tim was the biggest peice but to say tim was the most important is incorrect. Manu even now gets no credit and will not be talked about for the hall of fame and many people sont consider one of the best 2g for the era. Seriously his 2nd championship he was 50-40-80 guy from the field.

Well lets just be honest and look at the facts. Duncan vs dirk and dirk has 2-1 series lead. Also last year without manu the spurs were nearly swept. So lets talk numbers in the playoffs(championships)- 06--07-16.5pts,3ass,5reb 04-05- 21pts, 4ass,5reb, and hes putting these numbers up in 30 or less minutes which means more touches for duncan and parker. Tim is great but if you replace tim with a average big they would do better then if they replace manu with an average sg(mason)

My point exactly, its a team game and tim has had a far better team, a team that compliments his weaknessess. Dirk has been around for the mavs when they have rebuilt the team 3 times. This team only plays for championships cause he alone gets them there. When they made the finals dirk played amazing till the last 4 games of the playoffs and they didnt win a game when he still average 23 and 10. Dirk last year average over 30+ over 11reb and over 55% from the field and dallas won only 1 game.

Lebron doesnt have a great 2nd player, kobe was the 2nd best player and he only got get when pau came. Look at miami after shaq left, they can barely make the playoffs in the east. You watch the game last night? Just my point is that manu's importance. Kobe gets all the credit and pau doesnt get nearly as much and the same for manu and duncan. Duncan went to the bench in the 4th and they spurs were down and then the spurs came back and took the lead. When duncan came back in and mau to take a short break a 5pt lead became a 10pt deficit. It in no way reflects duncans prime years but manu isnt at his best either and still is the go to guy.

Dude how are you missing this so badly, its not that their not good but the fact that there better then the oposing team. Elliot made a 3 with his heel not touching the floor at the end of a game, it wasnt duncan. Even at the end of the admirals career he was a better defender and rebounder then duncan. Also reg seasons mean nothing if you dont get the right matchups. Phoenix will probably get the 2nd seed this year but are they more talented then the other teams, no.
