  • Curse you, Sky Sports. I wish Channel 4 KEPT Test Cricket.

  • thumbs up if you saw that subliminal picture at the very start of the video

  • I can remember in 1999 Channel 4 showing a really early Countdown one day when cricket ended early. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was one that had Linda Barrett doing the sums rather than Carol, which means it would have been from the first couple of series. Also note the very young Susie Dent there, and she doesn't talk at all in this clip, whereas she's quite a big part of the show now!

  • @2001JamesTV It was weird how random the episodes were at this time, they showed a few 80s episodes, and showed some from the 90s too, I guess this was before the idea came about for the 'one-off' episodes that did air when Cricket finished early. Susie's first appearance was only a few months before this episode originally aired, but as you say quite a stark contrast compared to 2010. From Tuesday 3/8/10 they're repeating episodes from 2010 as filler, good to see not much changes... :/

  • @2001JamesTV The earliest Countdown shwn when the cricket was off was the 100 show from autumn of 1983. Linda Barret had left by then, but Bev Isherwood was still putting the numbers up, so perhaps you are thinking of her

  • @2001JamesTV The first nostalgic countdown shown during cricket was the episode 100 from series 3 in 1983. Linda Barrett was only in series 1, you must be thinking of Beverley Isherwood who was still in on series three

I didnt get the 100th on video, but the second countdown cricket nostalgia fest from 1987 with Steven balment is on countdown goofs channel

mind you it wasnt much of a nostalgia fest as after the 1987 episode all the rest were post 1992 so they were too recent

  • If anyone comments about the fact that there were 2 vowels in the round near the end of the clock, the 3 vowel rule began in Series 30; this is from COC6, near Series 25.

  • Isnt that guy dead now.

  • @Jordanblob Richard Whiteley passed away yes, he died in 2005. Still sadly missed.

  • The episode here was first shown on Tuesday 5th January 1993.

  • Yeah I was about to say that....

  • @15hl It was indeed, despite the 1992 copyright date.

Wayne beat Phil 60-38 the following day, then edged past Fiona by a single point, 52-51, and finally beat Chris Waddington 79-67 to become the sixth Champion of Champions.

  • like this classic 90s thanks for uploading anymore 92 96 episodes

  • Thanks for this. I love the studio design in this sort of era, in fact I think the 80s/90s was just generally the golden era of television but I am probably slightly biased as I was born in 1990.
