The truth is that like in many countries Mexico's indigenous population are often times discriminated and among the poorest ...this is why they tend to be the ones that come to the US illegally for work. It's also this indigenous population that most Americans associate with "looking Mexican" ...kind like sayin if you aren't Cherokee you don't "look American". I'm 2nd generation Mexican American (with family on both sides of the border) & proud of my heritage my family and now of Mark as well

Mexico is made up of "Mestizos", that is; people of Indian (Aztec, Mayan etc...) & European (primarily Spanish & French) decent. Obviously, some individuals are predominantly of European decent, some predominantly Indian & others are a mix ...hence the word "Mestizo".

The point am trying to make is that Americans have a stereotype of Mexican being mostly dark when in reality most are light skin. Its only in some southern regions where the majority look indiginous (more immigrants come from the south). Both my parents are full blooded Mexican but look way more Caucasian than marks dad. You would be surprized to see how many mexicans from where am from (Guanajuato, Mexico) have blonde hair with blue eyes, and just an overall European look.

Just because he's 3rd generation Mexican, that doesn't take away his heritage/roots, I don't understand why a lot of people here in America see it as a problem when someone feels pride for their heritage.
