@Guinnie yeah. I believe both of these men died in these aircraft. just about everyone that has flown a BD 5.... or any BD aircraft for that matter, has died.
@iostream999 Sorry to hear that, I was afraid that was the case I saw one of these in person in a half completed stage and mistook it for a motorcycle sidecar, Amazing Burt Rutan survived his flight in one
@iostream999 lol, not true completely true, the BD 5 Js have crashed (Save, I think, the one in the air museum that flew in Octopussy) as well as the BD 10, but the many original prop versions are still flying. A new jet has been built but I think it still hasn't flown yet.
@dragonamt You may be talking about my jet and I did my first test flight in January. I'm done with testing now and starting to make my first public appearances.
As for Bob, I just worked with him last week and I have to say he's just the nicest guy you could ever meet. Just an amazing man. He still uses his two jet's for military contract work and he recently sold a third to Red Bull. If you want a good history on the BD-5J, check out Rob de Bie's webpage. Mine is FLSMicrojet com.
@flsmicrojet I wasn't sure, I know Rob was fling the BD5J for the air force in war games, but there were 'rumors' that he crashed there recently. Good hear that it is still flying and that there are others working on the microjets. I'll check out the websites, thanks.
Was it paperwork and homeland security that they are no more? This is what we like about the USA I've been there skydiving.I'm sure commercial pilots might enjoy livening up their skills in one of these.Simulators only go so far.The windtunnel is an awsome innovation for the skydiver but does'nt replace a jump. These planes look quite economical to operate.
The Srearmans used to winter here at Marana (used to be E14 - now different airport airport designator - when the county had it but city of Marana took it over after the Osprey chased - not related). The Stearmans are sponsored by Red Baron Pizza. There was accident (while practicing?) in Florida a few years ago and think they might have lost 2 aircraft I know at least one. I was fortunate enough to be flying in the pattern here in AZ with them a few times. Regards.

Guinnie, you don't know what you're talking about. Bob Bishop is still very alive and in fact owns a business based on the BD-5J.

chances are i'll be having a bd5 of my own next fall...
anyone here already has one and could tell me a little more about it?
i'd like to know about it's flight envelope, and most of all, if it can be flown in europe.
the sfact (french faa) is useless on this matter, merely telling me i should bring it here before giving me a go or no-go..
since some fly the cri-cri here,i believe it is feasible but still; infos welcome!!

i would have imagined that stalling or spinning the little BD Jet would have been extremely dangerous. It does not strike me as spin friendly...
