The tricky bit here, is what defence would a psychologist have against bogus allegations. Where does the law draw the line and accept one side over the other. Particularly since some of the people making the allegations could in fact be fantasists. It is a common thing afterall for some to form fantasy 'attachments' with their Doctors. Where does it end up? Will all consultations need to be videotaped and wouldn't that contravene civil liberties?

The profession of psychiatry may attract predators because the victim will not have any credibility. They are "mentally ill" and the psychiatrist is a medical doctor.

A lot of psychiatrists try to take their issues out on their patients and they become vindictive if anything questions their god-like power. Their treatments can make quite a punishment.

They might have been an unpopular nerd in high school but now they are in a position of power over their patients. Abuse is not that rare.

The thing that freaks me out is in some of these sexual abuses cases, the victims don't come forward for years, someone finally speaks out and six or seven more women will come forward saying they were abused too. You didn't mention the would be rapist who denied their compulsion because of tecniques instilled in him/her by a psychotherapist. I am working on a M.A. in art therapy, and am proud of the fact that I will be helping people who don't have the skills to help themselves.

You can find articles cover sexual abuse in all these professions but you find about four times as many psychiatrists sexually abusing their patients than other care giving professions.
