Editing was done in Adobe Premiere Pro, lightsabers were painstakingly rotoscoped in Photoshop (although AfterEffects would be the first choice now) and colour correction was done using the Canopus plug-ins for Premiere.

Lightning is a preset in Adobe Premiere, in the 'Render' video effects tab. You can customise it entirely as you wish, including colour, forks, start/end point, non-fixed ball lightning etc etc

A simple series of match-on shots! We had two lightsabers with blades and one which was just a handle -

When the Jedi knocks the Sith's saber from his hand, he uses the handle and we drew in the growing blade. The Sith then acted surprised and threw the same handle out of shot, and we drew in the shrinking blade behind his hand.

When the Jedi jumps up and uses the Force, we threw the handle into an empty shot, then just reversed the footage. When he catches it, we threw it into his hand.

They are wooden sticks with coloured tape wrapped round for the black and silver handles.

The growing sabers are done in the same way that the original films were - by drawing it in frame-by-frame.

I used Adobe Photoshop for the rotoscoping - you have to do it frame by frame but I feel it gives more options for creativity and personalisation. There are tutorials etc at TheForce-dot-net in the fanfilms section, or there are some videos on YouTube where people take you through their own favourite methods.

We pay nothing except our own time. The 'sabers' are broom handles with gaffer tape on them, the 'actors' were just people who wanted to help out and see what we could achieve.
